Customer Service Clerk I/II Openings: 10 Status: Limited Part-Time (Minimum of 15 hours worked per week during mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.) Hourly Wage: $18.5665 per hour Position Summary Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor Circulation Services, is responsible for efficiently performing circulation routines and related duties while serving the public with courtesy and friendliness. The incumbent will demonstrate a commitment to the TLCPL’s mission and values including being welcoming, innovative, objective, accountable, and collaborative. Primary Responsibilities - Performs circulation procedures in the areas of charging and discharging of loan materials; accepting and computing fines; registering new borrowers; processing overdue, reserves, inter-loans, and branch loans.
- May be assigned specific areas of responsibility.
- May verify and process registrations.
- Prepares receipts according to established routines and policies.
- Establishes and maintains rapport with customers in a friendly and courteous manner.
- Communicates library information including initiatives, services, programs, and book sales to customers as appropriate.
- Assists patrons in solving circulation problems and concerns.
- Answers telephone calls and provides information to callers or directs calls to the supervisor and/or librarians.
- Actively supports diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Promotes a culture where all staff and customers belong.
- Keeps informed of library policies and procedures and participates in appropriate workshops, seminars, and training classes to expand and enhance job skills.
- May be assigned to rotate to perform duties and assignments at other Library facilities.
- May be required to perform other duties that are necessary for the efficient operation of the agency and the library.

Minimum Qualifications Knowledge/Skills - Knowledge of library circulation procedures and practices.
- Basic Technology skills as defined in level 1 of the Technology Core Competencies (Basic understanding of computer equipment, a basic understanding of web browsers and websites, and can utilize of an electronic timecard system).
- Ability to interact pleasantly with patrons of all ages from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Ability to communicate and work cooperatively and effectively with supervisor and co-workers.
- Ability to work independently and perform detailed tasks neatly and accurately.
Training/Experience/Education/Certification - High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be passport certified within 12 months of job incumbency (passport agencies only).
- Minimum of one (1) year of direct customer service experience.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience handling cash and credit card transactions.
- Ability to type 35 wpm accurately.
- A valid driver’s license; must be insured and meet your state’s minimum coverage requirements for auto insurance.
- Must meet eligibility requirements of the Library’s insurance carrier under the Library’s Vehicle Motor Use Policy.
- May be required to drive a library-owned or non-library-owned personal vehicle on a regular basis on behalf of the library business.
- Previous experience as a circulation clerk (Preferred).
- Experience utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and mobile devices (i.e., iPhone, iPad, Nook, Kindle, laptops, etc.) (Preferred)
Job Complexity and Impact Work is directed and reviewed by a supervisor. The job does not routinely require making independent decisions, except those from a defined set of procedures. Most tasks are routine in nature and small to moderate in size and scope. - Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, and sitting. Frequent reaching, feeling, and use of vision associated with computer use and handling of library materials. Frequent reaching, stooping, bending, crouching, lifting, pushing/pulling, and handling of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
BCI/FBI Criminal Background Record Clearance and MVR history are required. A drug screen/medical examination is to be completed prior to the start date.
