About the Position

The City of Saint Paul has two internal promotional opportunities for Customer Service Representatives-one with Parks and Recreation and one with Saint Paul Regional Water Services. These positions serve as a primary point of contact for residents and staff by responding to questions, resolving concerns, processing transactions and requests, maintaining customer records, and connecting customers with City services and resources.

Information specific the Parks and Recreation Department position: This vacancy is located at City Hall Annex, 25 W. 4th Street, Saint Paul, and is scheduled to work Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. A hybrid schedule may be available following a successful completion of the introductory period..

Heres what you can expect to do:

  • Provide customer service by phone, email, online, and in person to assist residents with park permits, program registrations, and general information requests.
  • Utilize recreation management software and other City information systems to process registrations and permits, enter and maintain data, and provide accurate and timely information.
  • Use strong verbal and written communication skills to understand customer needs, resolve problems, answer questions, and connect residents with the appropriate resources and services.
  • Research information from City departments and external resources to ensure customer inquiries are fully resolved.
  • Exercise sound judgment while providing exceptional customer service and supporting a wide variety of Parks and Recreation programs and services.

Information specific to the Saint Paul Regional Water Services position: This vacancy is located at 1900 Rice Street, Saint Paul, MN 55113, and is scheduled to work Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Heres what you can expect to do:

  • Provide customer service by phone, email, online, and in person to assist customers with utility billing inquiries, payment processing, account maintenance, service requests, and general information requests.
  • Process cash, check, and credit card payments; operate cashiering systems; balance receipts; and maintain accurate financial transaction records.
  • Utilize customer information systems and other City information systems to maintain customer accounts, process transactions, enter and maintain data, and provide accurate and timely information.
  • Research information from Saint Paul Regional Water Services, City departments, and external resources to ensure customer inquiries are fully resolved.
  • Exercise sound judgment while providing exceptional customer service and supporting a wide variety of Saint Paul Regional Water Services programs and services.

Position Requirements

Four years of office support experience, including two years of customer service experience assisting the public in resolving problems.

Note: Two years of post-high school education can be substituted for up to two years of customer service experience.

Assessment: Qualifications Rating

The Qualifications Rating is an assessment of your completed application and answers to the Supplemental Questionnaire. GENERAL INFORMATION:

Promotion Only Job Posting: This posting is open to current City of Saint Paul employees who meet the Civil Service promotion rule, which includes two years certified service. The promotion eligible list is ranked. Those who pass the assessment will be placed on an eligible list for approximately six months.

Promotion Final Selection Process: You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position. Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire based on civil service rules. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.

Pre-Employment Screening: This position may require a drug test and a background check which may include criminal history, and employment history as a condition of employment. Candidates will be required to submit proof of education to Human Resources upon conditional job offer, if qualifying based on education.
