PUBLIC WORKS/UTILITY: CUSTOMER SERVICE
Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to provide customer service support involving utility, public works or park services, promoting efficient and organized operation of departmental activities. Employees in this classification function at entry level to perform both routine and non-routine duties as dictated by the nature of the work. Position coordinates account collections, initiates discontinuance of services or cemetery billing. Performs related work as directed.
Examples of Duties
Receives telephone inquiries and complaints, ascertaining the nature of the call, screens, and directs to the appropriate department; greets and directs visitors, as and when appropriate.
Responds to inquiries and requests from the general public and business community regarding utility accounts through friendly, professional customer service skills, ascertaining the needs of the customer and providing appropriate assistance and information.
Provides data and information to customer service field technicians; scheduling field appointments, special events and ensures proper billing and adjustments are completed for customers and facilities; processes money from splash pad, parks, and cemeteries.
Generates and mails various memos, notices, copies of billings and other relevant materials to customers; prepares and mails account letters in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Coordinates assigned duties such as connect and disconnect requests; coordinates and prints cut off work orders for delinquent utility accounts; prepares all appropriate documentation and service orders.
Files various documents and records as instructed by departmental guidelines; retrieves files on request.
Opens mail; ensures proper amount is received, enters payment data.
Establishes, collects, organizes and maintains data on account information and status.
Files correspondence, reports, records and materials according to appropriate departmental guidelines.
Performs a variety of cashiering and account reconciliation tasks.
Assists with the resolution of minor routine administrative and operational problems.
Communicates with other departments and public agencies for the dissemination of information.
Receives and processes daily cash for utility bill and other fees and charges.
ADDITIONAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED; supplemented by a demonstrated aptitude for customer service-oriented work, and one (1) year clerical and cashiering functions, and demonstrated organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Employee shall obtain the National Incident Management System ICS-100 Introduction to the Incident Command System and IS-700 National Incident Management System, An Introduction within six (6) months of employment. The following courses are designed to provide a baseline, as they introduce basic NIMS and ICS concepts and provide the foundation for higher-level Emergency Operations Center (EOC), MACS, and ICS-related training.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Some tasks require visual abilities. Some tasks require oral communications ability.
