Customer Service Specialist

STATUS: Part Time, Non-exempt

DEPARTMENT: Student Services

LOCATION: Lansing Campus, Lansing Michigan

PAY: $14.28

Summary:

This position is responsible for providing administrative support for the staff of a campus/department. Will also perform receptionist duties and other non-routine office functions as needed. These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the University's mission, vision, and values which include diversity, equity and inclusion.

Responsibilities:
  • Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies associated within Student Services or other role specific regulations.
  • Performs receptionist duties and related duties.
  • Holds responsibility for specific projects/programs which may involve planning and coordinating work, analyzing data, preparing reports, making recommendations and other duties associated with the successful completion of a project/program.
  • Maintains, processes and manipulates data on a personal computer/mainframe using word processing, data base, presentation and spreadsheet software.
  • Processes, maintains, and handles the reservation system for classes, meetings, and events utilizing our reservation system software.
  • Assists in communication with others by using many forms of technology, such as creating flyers, newsletters, signs, and others forms of communication utilizing different technologies.
  • Schedule and coordinate appointments.
  • Performs work of a confidential nature.
  • Assists in carrying out office operation responsibilities.
  • Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies. This includes NCAA, GLIAC and national affiliations associated within athletics or other role specific regulations.
  • Provides GREAT customer service, anticipating and exceeding the needs of our customers.
  • Demonstrate and promote the University Cultural Values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma required, relevant college coursework or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Previous administrative experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated positive organizational and technical skills.
  • Must be proficient in working with technology such as email, google systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and other forms of technology needed in an office setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, develop goals, meet deadlines, and accomplish goals while prioritizing workloads.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain satisfactory work performance and attendance records.
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance and manner.
  • Demonstrative ability to work accurately and effectively with financial data and computerized systems.
  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation and positive reactions to change and conflict resolution.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both written and oral which transcends to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and relate well to students, parents, faculty, staff, and others while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
  • Must be highly motivated and solution oriented with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the university.
  • Business office environment. Prolonged sitting and standing. Use of personal computer and telephone (eye and hand strain). Some travel between locations required (own transportation).
  • No regular lifting requirements, occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to work an irregular schedule, evenings or Saturday as needed, additional hours during peak times or as required.
