Customer Service Dispatch
Job Summary:
The incumbent, under the guidance of the Administrative Superintendent, will have split duties each week between the Administration office and the Scale House. When scheduled at the Administration office the incumbent will serve as the first point of contact for customers contacting the Department of Sanitation for solid waste collection and disposal services. The incumbent communicates with customers and department staff to schedule services, establish new accounts, and assist with problem resolution and provide administrative support as needed. When scheduled at the Scale House the incumbent is responsible for running the landfill gate and processing all incoming landfill traffic. The incumbent also answers the landfill phone, providing Sanitation information.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Note: All City of Fort Smith positions require the employee to provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees, and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive. Must show cooperation and respect to fellow employees and supervisors at all times.
Provide direct customer service support to businesses and residences via phone, in person, and email.
Scan and digitally file paperwork and maintain hard copies of ADEQ regulation file.
Provide daily maintenance of assigned computer databases and spreadsheets for various residential, commercial, landfill, and administrative department needs.
Provides assistance and backup support to the Administrative Coordinator, as needed.
Assist with projects for the Administrative Superintendent and/or Sanitation Director.
Rotation through the landfill scale house each week.
Ø Process all incoming and outgoing landfill customers.
Ø Perform initial waste screening for type/location and suitability for disposal.
Ø Insure incoming commercial customers are properly licensed by appropriate waste management district.
Ø Perform data entry to City's computer system for billing purposes, including origin, type, of waste and calculate based on weight or volume per established guidelines.
Ø Collect and enter payments and/or applicable charges for waste.
Ø Enter commercial and industrial charge tickets in computer.
Ø Operate double scale system.
Ø Handle money from cash customers and maintain cash and charge receipts.
Ø Direct waste to appropriate disposal area.
Ø Balance cash drawer.
Ø Provide customer service and take complaints as necessary.
Serve as a backup person for dispatch, as needed.
Position will rotate working Saturdays and Holidays.
Regular attendance and timeliness is required.

Education and/or Experience:
Other Skills and Abilities: Must have good verbal and written communications skills as well as good organizational skills. Problem solving and accuracy are required to perform the duties of this position. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also required. Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment. Computer skills are necessary to perform this job. Must take initiative to resolve customer complaints when supervisor is not available based on standard practices, policies and procedures.

The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.

While performing the duties of this position the incumbent may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, works near moving mechanical parts and is at risk of electrical shock. The incumbent is also exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
