Cutting Room Operator

About the Job

The Cutting Machine Operator is responsible for preparing, spreading, and cutting fabric and lining materials according to production specifications. This position ensures all materials are cut accurately, safely, and efficiently while maintaining the company''s quality standards and production schedules.

What You'll Do | Key Accountabilities

Machine Operation

  • Operate computerized and manual cutting equipment in accordance with company procedures and safety standards.
  • Program and set up electronic cutting equipment based on production requirements.
  • Load markers into the cutting machine and verify proper alignment.
  • Configure machine settings and initiate cutting operations.
  • Monitor cutting equipment throughout the cutting process to ensure accurate and efficient operation.

Material Preparation and Spreading

  • Review production guides, samples, markers, and specification sheets to determine setup and cutting requirements.
  • Spread kraft paper and position markers for cutting.
  • Retrieve fabric and lining rolls from storage and unroll materials according to required measurements.
  • Spread materials evenly and accurately to ensure proper cutting.
  • Return unused fabric and lining rolls to the designated storage area.
  • Scan production markers and move completed layers to the cutting queue.

Quality Control

  • Inspect cut components to ensure they meet quality standards, specifications, and pattern requirements.
  • Verify the accuracy of cuts and identify any defects or discrepancies before releasing materials to production.
  • Separate finished cut pieces from excess fabric and prepare them for the next production stage.
  • Move completed cut components to designated staging areas.

Safety and Housekeeping

  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures while operating equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Report unsafe conditions, equipment malfunctions, or potential hazards to supervision immediately.

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain high standards of quality, productivity, and accuracy.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and other departments to meet production schedules.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Skills & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous manufacturing or textile production experience preferred.
  • Experience operating automated cutting equipment is preferred; experience with Gerber, Lectra, or similar cutting systems is a plus.Ability to safely operate computerized and manual cutting equipment.
  • Experience working with fabric spreading, markers, and production specifications is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to operate electronic cutting systems and scanners.
  • Ability to read and interpret production orders, markers, patterns, and specification sheets.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to identify and resolve minor equipment or material issues.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing to a team environment.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and compliance with company policies.

Reporting - Working Relationships

  • Reports directly to Cutting Room Supervisor

Work Environment:

  • Manufacturing or production facility environment
  • Fast-paced work setting with production deadlines
  • May involve exposure to fabric dust, machine noise, and moving equipment

Physical Qualifications:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Frequent use of hands and repetitive hand motions
  • Ability to bend, reach, twist, and perform repetitive movements.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Benefits

The starting hourly wage for this position is $15.50-$16.25 and may increase to $19.50 depending on merit, length of service with the Company, and other factors. We take into consideration an individual's skills, background, and experience in determining final salary. Base pay information is based on market location and may be subject to prevailing wage laws, if applicable.
