CW Battery Design Engineer
Toyota's Powertrain Design & Evaluation (PDE) team is seeking a passionate and highly motivated engineer to work on the development of high-voltage (HV) batteries for next-generation electrified vehicles and mobility solutions. This role involves cross-functional collaboration with teams in both Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) and Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) in Japan, supplier management, and hands-on engineering for HV battery packs and components.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and localize high-voltage (HV) battery packs or components for next-generation electrified vehicles (xEVs: Hybrid Electric, Plug-in Hybrid, Battery Electric, Fuel Cell) and other mobility projects.
- Define requirements for HV battery packs or components, collaborating with cross-functional departments at TMNA and TMC.
- Manage development of HV battery packs/components with 3rd party suppliers, ensuring design requirements and project schedules are met.
- Perform battery pack/component packaging, fastening, performance, strength, and durability studies in collaboration with Toyota R&D groups in the USA and Japan.
- Create and execute validation plans with suppliers, ensuring test results meet Toyota's standards.
- Conduct supplier manufacturing site visits to confirm processes meet design intent and Toyota's high-quality expectations.
- Research and implement innovative methods and technologies for future Toyota battery packs through competitor benchmarking.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
- 2+ years of experience developing parts with suppliers, affiliates, or Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC).
- 2+ years of effective project management and time management skills.
- Beginner or higher level CAD skills (CATIA V5).
Preferred/Additional Skills:
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (optional, 10% preference).
- Experience completing a full project cycle from concept to production (1 project, 20%).
- 2+ years of experience in Toyota's Powertrain Division (40%).
- Completion of TBP (Toyota Business Practice) (30%).
