Job Title: Construction Inspector
Job Description
This role focuses on performing daily inspections on commercial construction projects to verify quality and compliance with building codes, construction drawings, and project specifications. The Construction Inspector conducts visual and physical inspections, performs field testing, documents findings, and collaborates with project teams to resolve issues while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
+ Perform daily inspections of construction projects to monitor quality and adherence to building code requirements, construction drawings, and project specifications.
+ Conduct inspections across multiple disciplines, including structural steel, concrete, masonry, fireproofing, and other structural elements within the inspector's area of expertise.
+ Carry out visual and physical inspections and perform field testing to verify conformance with approved plans and specifications.
+ Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications to ensure work aligns with contract requirements.
+ Perform testing, observation, and inspection activities in accordance with training and specified procedures.
+ Prepare clear and detailed inspection reports documenting observations, test results, and any nonconformance identified on site.
+ Provide written documentation of findings and ensure accurate data is compiled and reviewed before submission.
+ Perform basic analysis of collected data to verify accuracy prior to communicating results to the Project Manager.
+ Communicate inspection findings, test results, and issues to the Project Manager and other designated personnel in a timely manner.
+ Interact with clients and other site personnel, as needed, to provide input on appropriate resolutions for nonconforming work or other findings.
+ Assist the Project Manager in developing the scope of testing and inspection services for assigned projects.
+ Coordinate pre-dispatch activities with project, department, and/or office leadership to ensure readiness for site assignments.
+ Maintain inspection equipment in proper working condition and support more sr inspectors on large or complex projects.
+ Follow all safety rules, practices, and project-specific safety requirements, including completing pre-task planning before executing work.
+ Report any safety issues or concerns to management and actively contribute to a safe work environment.
+ Take responsibility for maintaining high quality standards on all assigned projects and ensuring consistent adherence to procedures and specifications.
Essential Skills
+ Experience in construction inspection, including structural steel, concrete, masonry, fireproofing, and related disciplines.
+ Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and project specifications accurately.
+ Minimum 2 years of experience with structural steel bolting and structural steel welding inspection.
+ Proficiency in performing field testing, observation, and inspection in accordance with established procedures.
+ Strong documentation skills with the ability to prepare clear, detailed inspection reports and record nonconformance.
+ Capability to perform basic analysis of test data to verify accuracy before reporting.
+ Effective communication skills to convey findings to Project Managers, clients, and site personnel.
+ Knowledge of construction materials and methods, including reinforced concrete, structural steel, structural wood, proprietary anchors, post-tensioning, and related systems.
+ ACI certification (required).
+ Valid driver's license (required).
+ Commitment to following strict safety standards and performing pre-task planning for all work.
+ Ability to maintain and operate inspection equipment properly.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) certification is highly preferred.
+ Experience with nuclear density gauge operation and testing.
+ Experience with aggregate testing and related field or laboratory procedures.
+ Familiarity with ICC-related inspection practices.
+ Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders, including project and department leaders.
+ Willingness to continue professional development and pursue additional certifications.
+ Interest in working on high-profile commercial projects in a regional market.
Work Environment
This is a field-based role working onsite at construction projects, primarily within the Tacoma, Seattle, and Bellevue areas, with scheduling designed to keep inspectors as close to their homes as possible. The position follows a typical schedule of approximately 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on assigned workdays. The work involves regular presence on active construction sites, use of inspection and testing equipment, and adherence to rigorous safety practices and pre-task planning. The majority of work (around 80%) is on commercial projects rather than transportation projects, offering exposure to high-profile jobs and opportunities to build experience in complex structures. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
