SYSTEMTEC is seeking a Cyber Security Engineer II – AI for a hybrid opportunity for candidates in Columbia, SC.Candidate will serve as a hands-on cybersecurity engineer focused on identifying, detecting, and responding to threats involving artificial intelligence technologies. The role will design AI-focused detection capabilities, automate security operations, establish monitoring guardrails, and collaborate with technical and executive stakeholders to strengthen AI security readiness.
Required Qualifications of the Cyber Security Engineer II – AI:

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or 4 years of relevant experience; alternatively, an Associate's degree in a related field plus 2 years of job-related experience.
- Minimum of 6 years of technical IT experience with hands-on experience in security operations, detection engineering, or incident response.
- Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and maintaining SIEM/SOAR workflows and security detection capabilities.
- Experience creating security automation and detection logic using scripting or query languages such as Python, KQL, or SPL.
- Working knowledge of GitHub or GitLab and CI/CD pipeline practices.
- Understanding of AI/ML security risks, including prompt injection, data leakage, and inappropriate reliance on AI-generated outputs.
- Experience analyzing security events and investigating alerts or incidents.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with executives, architects, engineers, analysts, and other senior stakeholders.
- Must be eligible for the required C2 clearance and successfully complete a required credit check during the pre-screening process.
Preferred Skills/Experience of the Cyber Security Engineer II – AI:
- Experience with network security technologies such as firewalls, intrusion prevention, VPN, PKI, cryptography, or vulnerability scanning.
- Background supporting security controls across LAN/WAN, client-server, web-based, or database environments.
- Previous experience as a network engineer or SOC analyst/engineer.
- Experience configuring security devices and supporting patch deployment or vulnerability management technologies.
- Certifications or formal training related to artificial intelligence, machine learning, or cybersecurity.
Responsibilities of the Cyber Security Engineer II – AI:
- Design, develop, deploy, and continuously tune AI-focused threat detections within SIEM platforms, including maintaining a production detection catalog mapped to available telemetry.
- Develop SOAR-based automation and orchestration workflows to improve alert enrichment, triage, escalation, and response efficiency.
- Establish monitoring baselines and anomaly thresholds for approved AI tools while identifying risky usage patterns and reducing recurring false positives.
- Investigate AI-related security alerts and incidents and develop actionable incident response procedures, runbooks, and playbooks.
- Conduct tabletop exercises to evaluate AI incident response readiness and incorporate lessons learned into detection and response improvements.
- Partner with technical teams and leadership to communicate AI security risks, detection coverage, operational trends, and remediation activities through clear, executive-ready reporting.
Work Location: Partial onsite — Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday onsite, with additional onsite work as needed. In-person interviews are preferred, though remote interviews may be available. Columbia, SC.
