Job Description: We are seeking a skilled QA Automation Engineer in the Austin, TX or Westlake, TX area with strong hands-on experience in designing, executing, and automating test scenarios across API, UI, scheduled jobs, and database layers. The ideal candidate brings a solid understanding of Agile practices, test engineering, and cybersecurity technologies-particularly Identity and Access Management (IAM) tools. Contract length: 6+ months
Locations: Austin TX or Westlake, TX - 4 days onsite/1 day remote
Rate: $40-$45/hr W2
Key Responsibilities Design and execute API, UI, scheduled job, and database test cases with a focus on accuracy, coverage, and risk-based validation. Develop and maintain automated test scripts for web-enabled applications, ensuring scalable, reusable, and maintainable automation solutions. Collaborate within Agile/Scrum teams to support sprint activities including planning, refinement, demos, reviews, and retrospectives. Use JIRA or similar case management tools to manage test cases, track execution, document defects, and maintain testing traceability. Apply advanced QA methodologies to support the integrity, reliability, and performance of business-critical systems. Test and support Cyber Security platforms including IAM and related technologies such as Zscaler, SailPoint IdentityIQ (IIQ), PingID, HYPR, and similar systems. Partner with engineering, product, security, and business teams to communicate technical findings in a clear, accessible manner. Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying testing gaps, refining processes, and supporting improvements across the SDLC. Support CI/CD initiatives and ensure tests integrate effectively into automated build pipelines.
Preferred Qualifications 3-5 years of hands-on QA engineering and software testing experience in API, UI, scheduled jobs, and database environments. 3-5+ years of experience developing test automation scripts, especially for web-based applications. 3-5+ years of experience working in Agile environments using tools such as Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or similar. 2-4+ years of experience using JIRA or equivalent test management/case management platforms. Strong understanding of SDLC, including business analysis, development, testing, maintenance, and continuous improvement. Experience supporting Cyber Security tools, particularly within Identity and Access Management (IAM). Familiarity with cybersecurity platforms such as: Zscaler SailPoint IdentityIQ (IIQ) PingID HYPR or similar authentication/identity solutions Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences. Strong knowledge of modern engineering practices including Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Delivery (CD), and automated testing frameworks.
Nice-to-Have Skills Experience designing or improving automation frameworks. Exposure to performance, load, or security testing tools. Familiarity with cloud security principles or Zero Trust architectures. Experience with API testing tools (Postman, Rest Assured, Karate, etc.).
