Description
Position Summary
The Cylinder Sorter is a front-line production role responsible for receiving, sorting, inspecting, and staging compressed gas cylinders as they move through the plant. Working on the production floor, the Sorter organizes incoming empty and full cylinders by gas type, size, and ownership, verifies cylinder condition and markings, and keeps the cylinder yard accurate, orderly, and safe. This is an entry-level position with on-the-job training provided; no prior experience with compressed gases is required, but reliability, attention to detail, and comfort with physical work are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Sort incoming and outgoing cylinders by gas type, size, valve type, and ownership, and stage them in the correct locations for fill, shipping, or storage.
Visually inspect cylinders for damage, corrosion, leaks, missing or illegible labels, and expired hydrostatic test dates, and remove any out-of-spec cylinders from service.
Verify and match cylinder markings, tags, and barcodes; scan cylinders and record movements accurately in the tracking system.
Secure cylinders properly with caps, chains, and straps at all times to prevent tipping or rolling.
Keep the cylinder yard, dock, and sorting areas clean, organized, and free of trip and safety hazards.
Segregate cylinders by hazard class and follow all DOT, OSHA, and company procedures for the handling and storage of compressed and cryogenic gases.
Report equipment issues, safety concerns, and inventory discrepancies to the supervisor.
Support general production duties and other tasks as assigned.
