Cytogenetic / FISH Technologist

We are seeking a Cytogenetic / FISH Technologist to join our laboratory team in San Antonio, TX. This role is responsible for performing cytogenetic and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) testing to support diagnostic and clinical laboratory services.
The technologist will perform specimen processing, chromosome analysis, and FISH testing while ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with established laboratory protocols and regulatory standards. This position requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a laboratory environment.
Perform cytogenetic and FISH testing procedures on clinical specimens following established laboratory protocols.
Conduct cell culture, harvesting, slide preparation, and chromosome banding techniques.
Perform microscopic analysis, karyotyping, and interpretation of cytogenetic results.
Prepare and analyze FISH assays including probe hybridization, signal detection, and documentation of results.
Maintain and operate laboratory instrumentation and ensure proper equipment calibration and maintenance.
Ensure accurate documentation and reporting of test results in laboratory information systems.
Follow CLIA, CAP, and other applicable regulatory and quality assurance standards.
Maintain laboratory records including quality control, reagent logs, and instrument maintenance documentation.
Assist with validation, quality improvement initiatives, and implementation of new assays as needed.
Collaborate with laboratory leadership, pathologists, and other laboratory staff to support testing operations.
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Cytogenetics, Biology, or a related life sciences field.
Experience in cytogenetics and/or FISH testing in a clinical laboratory setting preferred.
Knowledge of cell culture techniques, chromosome analysis, and FISH methodologies.
Familiarity with karyotyping and cytogenetic analysis software preferred.
Strong understanding of laboratory quality standards and regulatory requirements (CLIA, CAP).
Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a laboratory environment.
Strong organizational and documentation skills.
