Position OverviewWe are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Cytologist / Cytotechnologist to join our laboratory team. In this role, you will perform microscopic examination and interpretation of gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens while supporting quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and exceptional patient care standards.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong diagnostic accuracy, technical expertise, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities- Examine and interpret gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens accurately and efficiently in accordance with established laboratory procedures
- Issue final diagnoses for negative gynecologic cytology cases and submit non-gynecologic findings for pathologist review and final interpretation
- Verify specimen adequacy, acceptability, and patient identification throughout all phases of processing
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation for:
- Quality control (QC)
- Proficiency testing
- CLIA and DHMH compliance requirements
- Assist with fine needle aspiration (FNA) procedures, including slide preparation and staining
- Accurately enter test requests and results into the Cerner system while maintaining confidentiality and data integrity
- Participate in continuing education and ongoing professional development initiatives
- Communicate effectively and professionally with pathologists, nurses, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and patient-focused laboratory culture
QualificationsEducation- Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Medical Technology, or related field required
Experience- 1 3 years of cytology or related clinical laboratory experience preferred
Certification- American Society for Clinical Pathology Cytologist (ASCP) certification or equivalent required
Preferred Skills & Attributes- Strong attention to detail and diagnostic accuracy
- Knowledge of cytology laboratory regulations and compliance standards
- Experience with laboratory information systems, preferably Cerner
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment
