Program Overview:

The Child and Adolescent Unit provide therapeutic care and support to children and adolescents experiencing behavioral health and mental health challenges in a structured inpatient setting. Staff are responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of clients while implementing individualized treatment plans and promoting a positive, trauma-informed environment. Duties include facilitating therapeutic groups, monitoring client behavior, documenting observations, and assisting with daily living activities. Team members collaborate with nurses, therapists, psychiatrists, and other interdisciplinary staff to support each clients recovery and treatment goals. This position requires strong communication, crisis intervention, and de-escalation skills, along with the ability to build positive relationships with youth and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate Group Discussions
  • Lead structured group sessions that encourage participation, self-expression, and discussion.
  • Establish a Safe and Supportive Environment
  • Promote respect, confidentiality, and emotional safety.
  • Maintain appropriate group rules and boundaries.
  • Use Therapeutic Communication Techniques
  • Practice active listening and use therapeutic communication techniques, including open-ended questions, reflection, and validation.
  • Encourage healthy communication among participants.
  • Support Emotional and Social Development
  • Help participants identify and express emotions appropriately.
  • Teach coping, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation skills.
  • Monitor Group Dynamics
  • Observe participant interactions and address conflicts or disruptive behaviors.
  • Foster positive relationships and inclusion.
  • Assess Participant Needs
  • Recognize emotional distress or behavioral concerns and report them to the appropriate clinical staff.
  • Implement Therapeutic Activities

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, criminal justice, or another healthcare-related field.
  • Knowledge of mental illness, intellectual/developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders.
  • Understanding of co-occurring medical conditions and recovery-focused care.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively.
