Primary Purpose
Provide high-quality math instruction in a Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP) setting to students in grades 712. Design and deliver engaging, individualized lessons aligned with TEKS to address academic gaps, promote mastery of mathematical concepts, and support students' successful transition back to their home campus. Maintain a structured, supportive, and respectful classroom environment that promotes academic, social, and emotional growth.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education or a related mathematics field
- Valid Texas teaching certificate in Mathematics (712) or other appropriate certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Strong knowledge of high school mathematics content, including TEKS standards
- Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners, including at-risk, SPED, and ESL students
- Effective classroom management and de-escalation techniques in an alternative education setting
- Ability to integrate technology and hands-on learning into instruction
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Understanding of social-emotional learning strategies and restorative practices
Experience:
- Minimum of two years of successful secondary math teaching experience preferred
- Experience working with at-risk youth or in a DAEP/alternative school setting preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Support
- Plan, deliver, and assess math lessons aligned with TEKS and district curriculum
- Provide targeted small-group and one-on-one instruction to address skill gaps
- Use varied instructional strategies and resources to support diverse learning needs
- Adapt instruction and materials for students with IEPs, 504 plans, or language acquisition needs
- Encourage problem-solving, critical thinking, and real-world application of mathematical concepts
Behavior and Classroom Management
- Maintain a structured, respectful, and safe classroom environment
- Implement campus and district behavior management policies consistently
- Use restorative practices and positive behavior supports to address student behavior
- Collaborate with DAEP staff to monitor student progress and support reintegration to home campus
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with other DAEP teachers, counselors, and administrators to support academic and behavioral success
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about academic progress and behavior
- Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and staff development
- Coordinate with home campus teachers to ensure academic continuity
Working Conditions

- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting of instructional materials
- Work in an alternative education setting with students who may display challenging behaviors
- Minimum Salary $67,200 for fully certified teachers
- Salary is commensurate with experience
- Works 187 Day Calendar
- This position requires on-site, in-person work and does not offer remote work options.
