Position Summary This recruitment will be used to create a pool of multiple positions for the Department of Animal and Rangeland Sciences at Oregon State University (OSU). Position Duties Primary duty is the care and maintenance of animals facilities and some crop and grazing duties. Students will be responsible for providing coordinated day-to-day care of the cows and heifers at the Dairy Center. Typical tasks include:
• Milking • Stall cleaning • Feeding • Watering • Calf care • Other operations related to animal husbandry and facility upkeep

Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study. Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment. Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard.
High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term
International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered full-time. A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS) and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications This is an off-campus facility. Employees must have a reliable form of transportation. Applicants must be available to work early morning shifts (400 to 800 a.m.) and 400 to 800 p.m. will work around student schedules and clubs. Applicants must be flexible with availability in order to split shifts between employees fairly, ensuring animals will be cared for during holidays and breaks.
Preferred Special Qualifications No previous dairy experience is required but is beneficial.
Working Conditions Work Schedule Employee may be exposed to noxious odors, infectious diseases, chemicals, loud noises, slippery floors, and machinery. Employee will be exposed to inclement weather conditions. Employee may need to maneuver items that weigh up to 50 pounds. Employee may be required to stoop, bend, and kneel to provide care of the animals.
Milking shifts begin at 0400 a.m. and 0400 p.m. and can last from 3.5 - 5.5 hours depending on season and number of newborn calves. If shifts go longer than expected, employees are allowed to leave early to go to class. Employees are expected to work at least two weekends per month. Employee work schedules will be set according to class schedules.
