The Dance Coach is responsible for developing and leading the UPA HS dance program by providing instruction, conditioning, leadership development, and performance opportunities for student-athletes. The coach will foster a positive, disciplined, and inclusive team culture while representing the school with professionalism and integrity.
Essential Responsibilities
Dance Instruction and Conditioning
- Plan and lead regular dance practices that focus on technique, choreography, performance skills, and physical conditioning.
- Develop and implement conditioning programs to improve strength, flexibility, endurance, and overall fitness.
- Ensure practices are structured, engaging, and aligned with team goals and expectations.
- Promote safe training practices and monitor student wellness throughout the season.
Leadership Development
- Foster leadership, teamwork, accountability, and sportsmanship among team members.
- Mentor students in personal growth, character development, and academic responsibility.
- Establish clear expectations for conduct, attendance, and performance.
Competitions and Performances
- Identify, register for, and coordinate participation in local dance competitions, showcases, and community events.
- Prepare students for performances through consistent practice and skill development.
- Ensure all participants meet eligibility requirements established by the school.
Fundraising and Program Development
- Organize and support fundraising activities to assist with competition fees, uniforms, travel expenses, and program needs.
- Collaborate with administration and school stakeholders to grow and sustain the dance program.
Communication and Collaboration
- Maintain regular communication with parents regarding schedules, expectations, events, and student progress.
- Communicate effectively with school administration regarding program needs, student concerns, and upcoming activities.
- Attend coaches' meetings, school events, and other required functions.
- Submit requested documentation, rosters, and reports in a timely manner.
Attendance and Supervision
- Be present and actively supervise all scheduled practices, performances, competitions, and team activities.
- Arrive on time and ensure students are supervised until appropriate dismissal.
- Maintain accurate attendance records for team members.
- Experience coaching, teaching, or performing dance.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire high school students.
- Experience coordinating events, performances, or competitions preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, staff, and administration.
- Must meet all district and school requirements for coaching positions.
