Position Specific Description

This position is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting scalable data, platform, and AI solutions that enable enterprise analytics, reporting, and advanced data products.

The role combines data engineering, application development, analytics, and applied artificial intelligence (AI), with a focus on building data pipelines, backend services, and cloud-based data platforms (Databricks, AWS).

This is not a pure software engineering role and not a requirements-driven delivery role. The individual is expected to operate as an embedded business partner within Rates, Cost of Service (COS), Load Forecasting, and Load Research functions.

The position requires strong domain knowledge and the ability to proactively design data and AI-enabled solutions, including intelligent automation and AI agents that improve analytical workflows and business processes.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain ETL/ELT data pipelines

  • Develop backend services and APIs supporting data and analytics platforms

  • Build and manage workflows within Databricks environments

  • Utilize AWS services for data ingestion, processing, and deployment

  • Apply AI capabilities for automation, analytics, and decision support

  • Develop AI agents and intelligent workflow automation solutions

  • Work embedded with Rates, Cost of Service, Load Forecasting, and Load Research teams

  • Translate business problems into scalable technical and analytical solutions

  • Perform data analysis and support business decision-making

  • Provide operational and system support for data and AI platforms

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field

  • Experience developing data pipelines and backend services

  • Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (e.g., Python, JavaScript)

  • Experience with cloud environments (AWS preferred)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Experience or demonstrated interest in AI, automation, or data-driven systems

  • Ability to work directly with business stakeholders and translate needs into solutions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Databricks or Spark-based platforms

  • Experience in Rates, Cost of Service, Load Forecasting, or utility analytics

  • Experience building AI-driven solutions, automation workflows, or AI agents

  • Familiarity with data governance and enterprise data environments

Job Overview

This position is responsible for developing algorithms, modeling techniques, and optimization methods that support many aspects of NextEra and FPL business. Employees in this role use knowledge of machine learning, optimization, statistics, and applied mathematics along with abilities in software engineering with a focus on distributed computing and data storage infrastructure (e.g. "Big Data").

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops machine learning, optimization and other modeling solutions
  • Prepares comprehensive documented observations, analyses and interpretations of results including technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses
  • Works with a variety of datasets, including timeseries data and "big data" requiring analysis on distributed computing platforms
  • Writes software in R, Python or similar languages and contributes code to product development teams
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
