Data Analyst

Title: Data Operations Analyst 

Location: Remote, US 

Duration: 6 months, likely extensions 

Compensation: $40 - $42/hr

About the Role

We are looking for a Data Operations Analyst to support a creative audio organization. In this role, you will maintain the data pipelines, metadata, and reporting that the team relies on to understand its performance and impact.

This is not a software engineering role, but it does require comfort working in code and troubleshooting systems built by others. You will help ensure data remains accurate and trustworthy by diagnosing pipeline failures, extending tables to answer new questions, maintaining metadata, and supporting reporting needs.

The ideal candidate can work independently on detailed investigative problems, exercise good judgment about when to escalate issues, and clearly translate technical concepts for creative and non-technical partners. Strong communication skills and the ability to work through ambiguity are essential.

This is a fully remote position within the United States with an initial 6-month contract.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain scheduled data pipelines, resolving failures and upstream issues such as schema changes, storage limits, and data privacy, retention, and compliance requirements.

• Build and extend pipelines and tables to support new reporting needs.

• Drive data access requests end-to-end by developing written justifications, partnering with legal and privacy reviewers, submitting required approvals, and following through to resolution.

• Act as a data access steward by maintaining an understanding of which teams use specific tables and for what purposes, reviewing incoming access requests, and proactively identifying access needs for upcoming projects.

• Own the configuration and quality of metadata describing an audio/content library, including structured testing and auditing of changes.

• Maintain existing dashboards as upstream data sources change and investigate reported discrepancies.

• Document troubleshooting steps and technical decisions so they can be easily referenced by others.

• Provide clear and timely status updates to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in data analytics, data operations, analytics engineering, or a related field.

• BA/BS degree or equivalent experience in a quantitative, analytical, information systems, or related field.

• Strong working knowledge of SQL, including multi-table joins and aggregations.

• Working knowledge of Python, including the ability to read, modify, and maintain existing pipeline code written by others.

• Experience working with scheduled data pipelines and troubleshooting failures by identifying root causes rather than applying temporary fixes.

• Experience troubleshooting upstream issues such as schema changes, storage limits, and data privacy, access, retention, or classification requirements.

• Experience building and maintaining dashboards and investigating reported metric discrepancies.

• Experience creating technical documentation that others can follow.

• Ability to communicate technical issues clearly to non-technical and creative stakeholders.

• Ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities while maintaining clear and visible status updates.

• Ability to critically evaluate code and query outputs created by others or generated using AI tools, validating results against source data rather than assuming that functioning code is necessarily correct.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience owning or auditing structured metadata for a media, audio, or content library.

• Knowledge of or experience with music and/or sound design.
