The Mechanical Engineer will partner with the development team and play a key role in supporting design by providing technical solutions across assigned data center projects.The role will provide technical direction and operational advice, decision-making and overall leadership for data center technical specification and delivery across the Goodman portfolio in the US, and is responsible for managing internal and external resources in the delivery of the data center technical specifications.The Mechanical Engineer will also support the Projects team in the management and reporting of projects to ensure they are delivered to Goodman's quality, approved budget and time frame requirements.Key Responsibilities Support the development team in assisting with preparation of RFP, RFI's and Other technical requests made by customer engineering teamsAccountable for reviewing the related disciplines in the design process, providing instruction to RFIs and review/approve technical submittalsResearch, evaluate, and inform mechanical/electrical equipment and other typology equipment/component selection to inform technical solution for respective customer requirementsDesign, implement, and maintain the mechanical/electrical systems that support data center facilities, in conjunction with the development teamProvide technical support and input through delivery design phase to ensure performance requirements of mechanical and electrical equipment meets project requirementsPost delivery, undertake reviews of mechanical, electrical and plumbing performance to identify opportunities for optimization in operation, improvements in design and energy efficiency for future implementationProvide design management, technical direction, decision-making and leadership for data center designs and critical infrastructure systemsCollaborate with vendors and suppliers to procure high-quality equipment that meets technical specifications, performance requirements, and budgetary constraintsManage external consultants and contractors to deliver on expectations and escape issues to managementUse technical knowledge in ensuring the successful delivery of projects within budget, scope, and timelineEstablish and strengthen relationships and understanding of preferred vendor solutions to ensure efficient, cost effective and effective design solutions for Customer technical requirements and integrationBuild and maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholdersScope, tender and engage consultancy services required for each projectSupport Project Management resources in managing the preparation of project documentationManage the project's design requirements including peer reviews, presentations, internal stakeholder review and coordinationManage all authorities including coordination, design and approvals in line with project requirementsProvide feedback on project, contractor and consultant performance to General Manager, Data Center Development and raise issues as required including potential risksContribute to the development and evolution of a Goodman ‘Basis of Design' as trends and technology evolvesContribute to the feasibility phase by undertaking due diligence activities to validate technical solutions in site selectionDevelop relationships with customers throughout the delivery processDeliver within timeframes and cost projectionsMentor team members including Project Managers and AdministratorsAssist team in DD matters that are mechanical in nature.Assist with ongoing key project learning including staff training and lessons learned sessionsQualifications Bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture, plus minimum 10 years' experience as Mechanical/ Structural/ Electrical Engineer or Architect in a data center environmentStrong project management or project lead experience including RFQ/RFP process, selecting engineering teams, developing budgets, coordinating multiple consultant teams and facilitating meetingsExperience being involved in mechanical subcontractor and vendor relationshipsPreferred licensed mechanical contractor (passed state of CA Test) or equivalentHigh degree of proficiency in Data Center BOD Design, and some knowledge of industrial/commercial architecture.Detailed knowledge of mechanical infrastructure and construction and estimatingExperience managing cross functional and/ or cross team projectsStrong contractual background with excellent negotiation skills and the ability to achieve desirable outcomesRelevant qualifications in project management, engineering or other relevant disciplineDemonstrate a high level of proficiency in commercial and industrial architecture and engineering, with a primary focus on data centersDemonstrate understanding of hyperscale and co-location data center operator's basis of design and technical requirementsUnderstanding data center facility design and construction requirementsStrong understanding of project management and construction methodologiesDetailed knowledge of infrastructure and construction, and cost pricingUnderstanding cost reports
