Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced
Data Center Construction Manager to serve as the on-site field execution leader for a large-scale HPC facility in Spartanburg, SC.
This role owns day-to-day construction sequencing, schedule execution, site logistics, and coordination across the General Contractor and trade subcontractors. The Construction Manager will work closely with MEP, QA/QC, and commissioning leadership to keep construction progressing safely, efficiently, and in line with project milestones.
The successful candidate will be the primary on-site authority for field sequencing and construction execution.
Key ResponsibilitiesField Execution & Scheduling
- Own daily construction execution and cross-trade sequencing across the site.
- Maintain and drive the master construction schedule and 2-week / 6-week look-ahead schedules.
- Coordinate daily with GC superintendents and trade subcontractors.
- Resolve sequencing conflicts, trade stacking issues, and field constraints before they impact schedule.
- Conduct regular site walks to verify progress against schedule and planned sequence.
- Escalate and resolve schedule risks in real time.
Site Management
- Manage site logistics, laydown areas, access, equipment movement, and material staging.
- Coordinate labor, manpower loading, equipment, and material requirements to support productivity.
- Monitor field conditions and identify issues that could impact construction progress.
- Maintain daily field reports covering progress, manpower, schedule impacts, and open issues.
- Ensure construction activities align with drawings, coordination plans, and project requirements.
Safety & Quality
- Enforce site safety expectations and OSHA requirements across contractor workforces.
- Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions are identified.
- Coordinate with QA/QC and commissioning teams to ensure installed work is ready for inspection and turnover.
- Support quality walk-downs, phase-gate readiness, and commissioning milestones.
Coordination & Reporting
- Provide regular field-progress and schedule updates to the Director of Construction & Commissioning.
- Coordinate with the MEP Manager on system-specific installation sequencing and equipment delivery timing.
- Coordinate with QA/QC and commissioning leadership on readiness milestones.
- Present construction status during OAC and stakeholder meetings.
- Escalate schedule, manpower, logistics, and execution risks as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of hands-on field construction leadership experience as a Construction Manager, Superintendent, General Superintendent, or similar role.
- Experience in commercial, industrial, mission-critical, or data center construction.
- Proven ability to manage multiple trades and resolve complex sequencing issues on active construction sites.
- Prior hands-on trade experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of MEP, structural, and architectural construction sequencing.
- Experience with coordination drawings, RFIs, construction documents, and field changes.
- Proficiency with Primavera P6, Procore, and BIM 360.
- OSHA 30 certification required.
- Strong field leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hyperscale data center or HPC construction experience.
- Mission-critical or large industrial project experience.
- Trade school or technical certification.
- Experience working on MEP-heavy construction projects.
A bachelor's degree is not required. Equivalent hands-on construction and trade experience will be strongly considered.
