.Your Role and Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Center Engineer Technician to work with clients on the development and management of a state-of-the-art data centers for their deployments of IBM Quantum computing. The ideal candidate will provide hands-on technical capability to assemble, integrate, commission, and maintain quantum systems both at the local company site (factory/lab) and at customer locations. The technician will interpret customer schematics and site plans, coordinate with facilities and contractors, and ensure systems are mechanically, electrically, and environmentally integrated into customer data center infrastructures safely and to specification.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble quantum system components (mechanical, electromechanical, vacuum, cryogenic) at the local company site.
- Interpret customer schematics and MEP/data center plans to ensure correct system integration.
- Prepare systems for shipment and installation, verifying documentation, labeling, and build completeness.
- Travel to customer sites to install, assemble, position, and integrate quantum systems into their facilities.
- Coordinate with customer Facilities, IT/OT, and contractors to align utilities, cooling, power, and network needs.
- Perform onsite mechanical and electromechanical integration, including cryogenic, vacuum, and environmental hookups.
- Support system commissioning, including leak testing, cryogenic cooldown, mechanical checks, and safety system verification.
- Execute preventive and corrective maintenance on compressors, vacuum pumps, cryogenic components, and mechanical subsystems.
- Document installation, commissioning, and service activities, including as-builts and maintenance logs.
- Provide customer training and technical support, ensuring safe operation and basic system upkeep.
Travel
The role will be located at IBMs Poughkeepsie, New York location, which serves as a global hub for IBMs Quantum Network and technical team. The role will require frequent travel to client sites to oversee and manage data center infrastructure deployment.
