Position Overview

Hitachi Vantara is expanding its Engineering Data Center Lab infrastructure in Norman, Oklahoma as part of a multi-year consolidation of its U.S. engineering lab footprint.

We are seeking an experienced Data Center Infrastructure Engineer to provide hands-on infrastructure support and execution for the Norman Engineering Lab.

This role will support the deployment, migration, operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and lifecycle management of compute, storage, networking, and supporting data center infrastructure used by global engineering and product teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, rack, cable, relocate, troubleshoot, repair, and decommission enterprise compute, storage, and network equipment.
• Participate in hardware migrations, infrastructure deployments, lab expansions, and consolidation activities.
• Execute approved implementation plans and infrastructure changes.
• Troubleshoot server, storage, network, power, cabling, optics, firmware, and hardware connectivity issues.
• Support console access, BMC, iLO, iDRAC, IPMI, firmware updates, hardware validation, and remote-hands requests.
• Install and maintain copper and fiber connectivity, rails, cable-management components, and related rack infrastructure.
• Validate rack space, power, connectivity, cabling, and deployment readiness before installation.
• Maintain accurate rack elevations, asset records, serial numbers, equipment locations, and cabling documentation.
• Create and update incidents, service requests, work items, and change records with accurate technical details.
• Work with Network, Systems, Storage, Product Services, Engineering, Facilities, and global technical teams.
• Support hardware staging, shipping, receiving, inventory, return, and disposal activities.
• Follow established safety, security, change-management, and operational procedures.
• Identify discrepancies or risks and escalate before making changes.
• Create and maintain implementation documentation, procedures, and runbooks.
• Participate in planned maintenance and occasional after-hours activities as required.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience supporting enterprise data centers, engineering labs, infrastructure environments, or similar operations.
• Strong hands-on experience with enterprise compute, storage, networking, and physical data center infrastructure.
• Experience supporting hardware migrations, infrastructure deployments, relocations, or consolidation activities.
• Strong understanding of rack layouts, structured cabling, fiber optics, A/B power, PDUs, and equipment installation practices.
• Experience troubleshooting hardware, network connectivity, storage connectivity, cabling, and related infrastructure issues.
• Experience with enterprise Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and remote hardware-management technologies.
• Ability to interpret implementation plans, rack elevations, network diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Experience with ticketing, change-management, asset-management, inventory, CMDB, or DCIM systems.
• Ability to independently execute routine and moderately complex infrastructure work.
• Strong documentation, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to recognize operational risk and escalate appropriately.
• Ability to safely install and move data center equipment.
• Ability to work onsite in Norman, Oklahoma.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Hitachi Vantara infrastructure technologies.
• Experience with Cisco, Brocade, Dell, HPE, Lenovo, VMware, Red Hat, or comparable enterprise platforms.
• Working knowledge of Linux and Windows Server environments.
• Experience with virtualization platforms.
• Experience with DCIM, CMDB, monitoring, asset-management, or capacity-management systems.
• Experience supporting engineering, development, quality-assurance, high-density compute, GPU, or AI environments.
• Relevant infrastructure, networking, systems, virtualization, cloud, or data center certifications.
• Familiarity with Python, PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, APIs, or similar automation technologies a plus.

Tools & Platforms

• Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
• Microsoft Visio or similar diagramming tools.
• ITSM and work-management platforms such as:
  • Jira Software
  • Jira Service Management
  • Confluence
  • ServiceNow
• Experience creating, updating, and closing incidents, service requests, work items, and change records.

As required by the equal pay and transparency acts, the expected base salary for this position is: $60K to $75K. The expected on-target earnings for this position is: $65K to $82K

The expected pay is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, depth of experience in the practice area. Employees are eligible to participate in Hitachi Vantara’s bonus/variable/commission pay programs, where applicable, and are subject to the program’s conditions and restrictions. #LI-JT1
