Overview

Microsofts Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. As a CO+I Datacenter Change Manager, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsofts online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. Responsibilities

Change Management:

  • Execute the change management governance process across the campus/metro.
  • Manage the daily change management functions at the campus/metro level.
  • Lead the daily campus/metro Change Review meetings, ensuring only approved and validated changes are executed.
  • Review and approve infrastructure change requests, validating scope, risk, and readiness prior to execution.
  • Identify and manage scheduling conflicts, working with stakeholders to negotiate implementation dates and schedules across IT, Critical Environment, and Facilities teams.
  • Ensure changes are sequenced to protect availability, with rollback and contingency plans in place before approval.
  • Ensure compliance with infrastructure operations standardization and change control policy.
  • Act as an escalation point for change-related conflicts and risks within the datacenter, escalating to the Data Center Operations Manager as needed.

Data Center Operations/Service Delivery:

  • Establish strong working relationships with customers and partner teams across IT, Critical Environment, and Facilities.
  • Reduce stranded capacity as a key member of the local team in the deployment planning and optimization of IT capacity, working closely with Electrical Engineers and Critical Environment Field Service Engineers.
  • Support capacity enablement through Infrastructure Utilization Effectiveness (IUE) and Power Harvesting (PH), including retrofit efforts to upgrade legacy datacenters and harvest capacity in the existing fleet.
  • Provide program governance, leadership, and direction for projects at the campus level to ensure projects are planned and executed on budget and schedule.
  • Support the Data Center Project Managers with project estimation, budget management, ROI calculations, and delivery strategies, establishing milestones and schedules.
  • Maintain and report project status, monitor progress, and act as an escalation point ensuring achievement of intended outcomes.
  • Ensure routine reporting for change and critical infrastructure, inclusive of operational KPIs, objectives, organizational policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Management of small-to-medium projects from conception to completion.
  • Liaise with the Data Center Operational Efficiencies team to ensure campus level financial planning and performance reviews are conducted in accordance with the rhythm of business fiscal calendars and objectives.
  • Support the field operations leadership teams to operationalize all strategic initiatives consistently and effectively at the campus level.
  • Support the Campus Director with field employee communications, including townhalls, listening sessions, and local campus level communications.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Qualification or equivalent AND 6+ years experience supporting IT equipment or related technology or delivering server and network deployment projects in large-scale environments OR equivalent experience
  • 2+ years experience reviewing and approving infrastructure changes within a critical environment or facilities operations

Background Check Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of US Citizenship to meet federal government security requirements.

While not required, we also look for the following Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Technical College Degree in Computer Science, Math, Telecommunications, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain Management or related field AND 8+ years experience in critical environment infrastructures (e.g., UPS, Generator, AHU), or working in physical IT infrastructures (e.g., Servers, SANs, Networking, Capacity, DC Rack/Enclosures, structured cabling) OR High School Qualification or equivalent AND 10+ years experience in critical environment infrastructures (e.g., UPS, Generator, AHU), or working in physical IT infrastructures (e.g., Servers, SANs, Networking, Capacity, DC Rack/Enclosures, structured cabling) OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience in a 24x7x365 production environment or related experience.
  • Experience in datacenter processes and tooling or related experience.
  • Experience in change control processes.
  • 3+ years of experience with project management or relevant certification/training in project management.
  • Applicable certifications: ITIL v3 Foundation, Microsoft Operations Framework (MOF) Certifications, CompTIA, Microsoft, Network Certifications, CCNA Certifications, APICS/Inventory Control.
  • Demonstrated experience working with the operation of building cooling, electrical, mechanical, and life safety systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), Branch Circuit Monitoring (BCM), and Building Automation Systems (BAS).

Data Center Operations Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $102,600 - $202,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $137,500 - $225,800 per year.
