JOB TITLE: Data Center Technician
LOCATION: Austin, TX Onsite
DURATION: 6 Month Contract-to-Hire
RATE: $45/Hour

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install and configure hardware for enterprise servers, including cabling infrastructure.

  • Perform hardware break/fix repairs by replacing Field Replaceable Units (FRUs).
  • Handle rack installations, such as positioning racks, managing cabling, powering up systems, and transferring servers to internal provisioning teams.
  • Diagnose and fix telecommunications connectivity problems.
  • Identify issues with and replace network switch hardware.
  • Collaborate using a shared ticketing system monitored by various internal service teams and stakeholders.
  • Record activities and develop or update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Manage structured cabling, including labeling and troubleshooting for fiber, copper, and telecom cables.
  • Install, repair, and maintain system power supplies and related cabling.
  • Independently handle small-scale projects and collaborate with your manager on planning and implementing larger on-site initiatives.
  • Assist in maintaining on-site inventory of items like hard drives, cables, rails, and spare parts.
  • Process Return Material Authorizations (RMAs) for faulty components.
  • Co-ordination with onsite Facility (M&E) team for planned changes, PPMs and incidents.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Familiarity with server, storage, and network hardware.
  • Eagerness to learn new data center technologies and practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Flexible enough to work in shifts (static shift), weekends and holidays as per business requirement.
  • Ideally 40 Hrs./ 5 days a week support.
  • At least 4 to 5 years of experience in an IT setting.
  • Proven track record in resolving issues with servers, networking equipment, and other IT hardware.
  • Background in inventory management, including ordering, receiving, and shipping server components.
  • Comfort with on-call rotations and responding promptly to urgent incidents.
  • Ability to escalate concerns to senior on-site personnel and management when necessary. Understanding of key IT hardware principles (e.g., RAID, SAN, SCSI, Linux/Unix, GRUB).
  • Knowledge of trunk infrastructure systems.
  • Knowledge of various cabling tools like OTDR, OTLS, wire mapping tools etc.
  • Basic to moderate knowledge of Data Center’s Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) infrastructure.
  • Experience with liquid cooling environment would be a plus
  • Working knowledge of MS-Office
