Job Summary


The Office of Information Technology encourages applications for a _Data Center Technician!_ This role works within OIT for our campus data centers, including supporting our Data Center Manager. The Technician will provide operational support pertaining to customer facing operations (provisioning of rack space, customer deployments, adds/cancels, and customer communication) and support of the critical data center infrastructure (chillers, CRACs/CRAHs, UPS, Generators, and security hardware) within the data center spaces. The job duties will require the ability to distinguish between colors (white, red, blue and green) and lifting, both which can be performed with assistive technology. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be


_Colocation & Data Center Operations:_


+ _Customer Deployments:_ Be responsible for participating in customer facing communications as it pertains to coordinating the deployment of new equipment & customers within campus data center spaces. Participate in physical duties as it pertains to installation (PDU, server & cabling), labeling, and receiving operations. This role will be responsible for the upkeep of data center records via DCIM tool.

+ _Remote Hands:_ This position will perform communication and completion of received customer requests that vary from visual inspections of customer environments, connecting of crash-carts, cabling changes, server component installs/troubleshooting, shipping operations, and the escorting of third-party vendors.

+ _Cancels/Decommissions:_ Assist in customer facing communication as it pertains to coordinating and confirming the cancellation of data center services. This role will also help with the physical action of uninstalling data center hardware, updating DCIM records, removal of cabling, and engagement of asset surplus procedures.

+ _Customer Site Access:_ Coordinate the provisioning and removal of customer site access for the campus data centers. This entails customer facing communication, updating of customer access & email lists, and the completion of data center tours.

+ _Service Documentation:_ This position in collaboration with the Data Center Manager will generate and update the published documentation as it relates to data center services.


_Service & Infrastructure Operations:_


+ _Monitoring:_ Be responsible for the processing of service and infrastructure alarms both during and after-hours. This is to include alert response, physical action, and the performing of escalations based on standard operating procedures.

+ _Preventative Maintenance:_ Assist in the engagement/contact and escorting of vendors and/or CU Facilities department related to the preventative maintenance of the critically important data center infrastructure (chillers, CRACs/CRAHs, UPS, Generators, and security hardware).

+ _Inspections & Walkthroughs:_ This position performs reviews of completed site walkthroughs and will be responsible for creating tickets/cases to address non-passing findings. The Technician will also perform site walkthroughs as needed.

+ _Inventory Management:_ Be responsible for completing inventory cycle counts and audits along with general receiving operations. This will also include the allocation of consumables and assets needed for customer deployment and creation of project bill of materials (BOMs).

+ _Emergency Procedures & Documentation:_ Be responsible for performing emergency procedures when initiated during service impacting events. Assist in the update & creation of both emergency procedures and facility-based SOPs relating investigating & operating critically important infrastructure.


What You Should Know


+ This position is working primarily on site.

+ The schedule will vary between different options ranging from 6AM-3PM, 7AM-4PM, 8AM-5PM, 9AM-6PM for example, based on business needs. This position will be fairly flexible for scheduling.

+ After hours access will be needed once in on-call rotation. Possibility for normal afterhours work or weekends could be required, depending on scheduled events/maintenance.

+ Visa sponsorship is not available.

What We Require


+ Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. A combination of education and/or relevant experience as described below may be substituted for a degree on a year for year basis.

+ At least two years of professional experience in a related field.

+ A Valid U.S. Driver's License.
