Position Summary:
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is seeking a talented Database Developer & Engineer to design, develop, and support data solutions that power business operations, reporting, and analytics across the organization. In this role, you will work with stakeholders, application teams, and Enterprise IT to build scalable database solutions, develop complex SQL queries, and create meaningful reporting and dashboard experiences that support informed decision-making.

This is a hybrid role based in Bethesda, MD, and requires 2-3 days per week in the Bethesda office.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Apply database development principles, concepts, and best practices to support operational, application, reporting, and analytical needs.
- Design, develop, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, views, functions, database structures, and other database objects.
- Understand and work with logical and physical data models, relational database structures, schemas, and data relationships.
- Analyze business and application requirements and translate them into effective database, reporting, and analytical solutions.
- Extract, transform, analyze, and combine data across multiple tables and data sources to transform raw data into meaningful information that supports operational and decision-making needs.
- Analyze and resolve data quality, integrity, and reconciliation issues, ensuring accuracy and consistency across source systems, databases, applications, and reporting outputs.
- Develop and support database components, reporting datasets, data models, Power BI reports, dashboards, and other analytical products, including data preparation, calculations, filtering, and output validation.
- Develop and maintain data integration and ETL processes as needed to support data movement between operational systems, databases, reporting platforms, and analytical applications.
- Collaborate with application developers, application owners, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand complex data requirements, integrate database solutions with applications, and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Perform peer code reviews, testing, troubleshooting, and performance optimization to ensure database solutions meet established quality, reliability, maintainability, and performance standards.
- Partner with Enterprise IT on database administration, infrastructure, enterprise ETL/data engineering, deployment, security, and platform-related activities.
- Ensure the security and confidentiality of data and apply established development, documentation, and Agile practices as appropriate.
- Maintain an understanding of and comply with applicable HIPAA requirements, relevant FDA regulations, organizational policies, and data privacy and security standards.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Data Analytics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
- Approximately 3-5 years of experience in database development, data development, data analysis, or a related role.
- Strong SQL development skills, including experience developing, troubleshooting, and optimizing complex queries, stored procedures, views, functions, and other database objects.
- Strong understanding of relational databases, database design, data modeling, and data processing concepts and methodologies.
- Experience analyzing large or complex datasets, transforming data into meaningful information, and performing data validation, reconciliation, and troubleshooting of data discrepancies.
- Experience developing database and data solutions that support business applications, reporting, analytics, migrations, and data conversions.
- Working knowledge of ETL and data integration concepts, tools, and techniques, along with an understanding of DevOps and IT controls related to database development and deployment.
- Experience developing and supporting reports, dashboards, and analytical solutions using Microsoft Power BI or similar business intelligence/reporting tools, including translating business requirements into meaningful analytical outputs and visualizations.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to independently understand business requirements, translate them into appropriate technical and data solutions, manage multiple concurrent priorities, and learn new technologies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical and data concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences and collaborate effectively with application development teams, business stakeholders, and Enterprise IT.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
- Reports to the Director of the Patient Registry
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, and temperature.
- No heavy lifting required.
- Minimal travel (e.g., 4x/yr.) to conferences and meetings, as necessary.

The salary range is $94,200.00 to $117,600.00. Specific salary varies based on geographic location and is commensurate with experience.
