Description

Our client, a financial technology company based in Boston's Financial District, is seeking a Data Engineer to join their data infrastructure team. This role is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the pipelines and systems that move and transform data across the organization. The team works closely with data scientists, product managers, and business analysts to ensure data is reliable, accessible, and structured for decision-making.

The position operates on a hybrid schedule with three days per week on-site. The engineering team follows agile practices and uses a modern cloud-native stack. You will own end-to-end pipeline development from ingestion through transformation and delivery, and will be expected to contribute to architectural decisions as the data platform scales.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role with a clear path toward senior and staff-level engineering positions. The company has grown steadily and continues to expand its analytics capabilities across multiple product lines.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Python and SQL
  • Maintain and optimize data warehouse infrastructure on AWS or GCP
  • Collaborate with data scientists to productionize machine learning workflows
  • Monitor pipeline health, set up alerting, and resolve data quality issues
  • Document data models, schemas, and pipeline logic for internal use
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices
  • Evaluate and implement new tools to improve data platform reliability
  • Support business intelligence teams with data modeling and access needs

Requirements

  • 4 or more years of experience in data engineering or a closely related role
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL for data pipeline development
  • Hands-on experience with Airflow, dbt, Spark, or comparable orchestration tools
  • Familiarity with cloud data platforms such as Redshift, BigQuery, or Snowflake
  • Understanding of data modeling concepts including dimensional and normalized schemas
  • Experience with version control using Git and CI/CD workflows
  • Strong written communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary with annual performance review
  • Hybrid work schedule with flexibility on remote days
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) plan with employer match up to 4 percent
  • Annual professional development budget of $2,000
  • 20 days paid time off plus 10 company holidays
  • Commuter benefits and transit reimbursement
  • Access to internal mentorship program and career growth planning
