Description:

CTG's long-standing Fortune 500 client of over 15 years has a W2 contract assignment for a Data Engineer. This role focuses on building and supporting scalable data pipelines, ETL/ELT workflows, and workflow orchestration solutions within a highly technical and scientific environment. The ideal candidate will work closely with developers, engineers, and scientists to support analytics, applications, and research-driven data initiatives.

Candidates must be able to commute and work onsite in Corning, NY

Pay Rate: Based on experience

Work Hours: M-F 8am-5pm

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. An Associate degree may be considered with an additional 3–5 years of relevant experience beyond the minimum requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and troubleshoot ETL/ELT pipelines
• Build and manage workflows using Apache Airflow
• Develop and optimize SQL queries and transformation logic
• Support PostgreSQL and Oracle database environments
• Troubleshoot data quality issues, pipeline failures, and performance bottlenecks
• Collaborate with cross-functional Agile teams including software developers and scientists
• Support schema design, data modeling, and data integration initiatives
• Document workflows, dependencies, and operational procedures
• Evaluate emerging data technologies including DuckDB and modern analytics tools

Required Skills

• 2+ years of data engineering or ETL development experience
• Strong SQL development and optimization skills
• Hands-on experience with Apache Airflow or similar orchestration tools
• Experience with PostgreSQL and Oracle databases
• Python scripting experience preferred
• Understanding of data modeling, schema design, and performance tuning
• Experience with DBeaver or similar database tools
• Familiarity with version control and collaborative development workflows
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills
