Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1 year of experience working with geographical data sets and vector/raster data.
  • 1 year of experience working with machine learning, artificial intelligence, information retrieval and data mining.
  • Experience with database administration techniques or data engineering, as well as writing software in Java, C++, Python, Go, or JavaScript.
  • Experience managing client-facing projects, troubleshooting technical issues, and working with engineering and sales services teams.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with data warehouses, including data warehouse technical architectures, infrastructure components, ETL/ELT, and reporting/analytic tools and environments.
  • Experience in building multi-tier high availability applications with modern web technologies (e.g., NoSQL, MongoDB, SparkML, TensorFlow).
  • Experience working with GIS software.
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) tools like BigQuery, Cloud Dataflow, or Pub/Sub.

The 3P & Developer Operations (3PDO) Data Engineering team focuses on building and sustaining robust data pipelines and tools to support data for Google Maps. Our mission is to deliver improved pipeline scale and reliability, reduced manual effort, and faster, safer, and protected data delivery and publishing to Google Maps.

This specific role supports the 3P Developer data operations, which are critical for providing accurate and real-time information to Google Maps developers and users globally.

As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for building, maintaining, and monitoring data pipelines that ingest and process third-party (3P) data sets. You will work live data feeds to Google maps, Geo Developer interaction with Geo Data, Google Marketing Platform (GMP) customer contributions and other data attributes critical for the success of our developer and map ecosystems. You will ensure that this data is used to develop insights and influence product and ecosystems (partners and developers) engagement with Geo and Google. Your technical work will meet high quality standards that powers data published to Google Maps.

The Geo team is focused on building the most accurate, comprehensive, and useful maps for our users, through products like Maps, Earth, Street View, Google Maps Platform, and more. Every month, more than a billion people rely on Maps services to explore the world and navigate their daily lives.The Geo team also enables developers to use the power of Google Maps platforms to enhance their apps and websites. As they plot a course for the future of mapping, they are solving complex computer science problems, designing beautiful and intuitive product experiences, and improving our understanding of the real world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $106,000-$151,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to customers and solve complex big data challenges.
  • Create and deliver best practice recommendations, tutorials, blog articles, sample code, and technical presentations, tailoring approach and messaging to varied levels of business and technical stakeholders.
  • Analyze on-premises and cloud database environments and consult on the optimal design for performance and deployment on Google Cloud Platform.
  • Communicate effectively via video conferencing for meetings, technical reviews, and onsite delivery activities.
