Tire Rack is looking for an experienced Data Engineering Manager to lead our Data Engineering team and help shape the future of our enterprise data platform.
This role combines people leadership, technical expertise, and strategic planning. You’ll lead and develop a team of Data Engineers while overseeing the design, delivery, and operation of scalable, secure, and cost-efficient data solutions built on Databricks and AWS.
You’ll work closely with Analytics, Business Intelligence, Data Science, IT, and business leaders to ensure our lakehouse architecture provides a strong foundation for analytics, AI, and data-driven decision-making across the organization.
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Data Engineers ranging from entry-level through Senior.
Manage performance, career development, succession planning, hiring, and workforce planning.
Build a culture focused on ownership, collaboration, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Oversee the architecture and delivery of data pipelines using Databricks, Spark, Delta Lake, Workflows, and Unity Catalog.
Guide the development and evolution of our Bronze/Silver/Gold medallion architecture.
Ensure scalable and secure AWS infrastructure utilizing technologies such as S3, IAM, Glue, Lambda, VPC, and related services.
Establish strong CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code practices, including Terraform.
Lead data governance, security, compliance, data quality, monitoring, and reliability initiatives.
Establish SLAs and operational standards for critical data platforms and pipelines.
Drive performance optimization and cloud cost-management strategies.
Lead incident management and root-cause analysis efforts to improve platform reliability.
Translate business needs into scalable, sustainable technical solutions.
Partner across BI, Analytics, Data Science, Software Development, and other IT teams.
Help define the enterprise data roadmap and lead data-platform modernization initiatives.
Evaluate emerging Databricks and AWS technologies and identify opportunities for adoption.
8+ years of progressive professional data engineering experience.
3+ years of leadership experience at the Supervisor, Assistant Manager, or comparable level.
Deep knowledge of Databricks, including Spark, Delta Lake, Workflows, and Unity Catalog.
Strong experience designing and supporting solutions within AWS, including storage, identity and access management, networking, and compute optimization.
Experience leading cloud data-platform modernization initiatives.
Strong understanding of data architecture, governance, security, quality, reliability, and cloud cost optimization.
Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and develop employees at multiple career levels.
Proven ability to collaborate with and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience, required.
Relevant professional and cloud certifications are a plus.
Normal work days are Monday through Friday. Occasional weekend work may be necessary based on business or operational needs.
