As a member of the Data & Analytics team within the Information Technology organization, the Data Governance Intern supports the development and execution of enterprise data governance practices by assisting with the documentation, stewardship, quality, and management of organizational data assets. This individual will work closely with business and technical teams to help ensure data is defined consistently, properly classified, and aligned with enterprise standards and policies. The role will contribute to initiatives involving metadata management, data quality monitoring, data lineage, business glossary development, and governance process documentation.

This position provides hands-on exposure to how data is governed across systems, domains, and business processes, while helping promote data accountability, consistency, and trust throughout the organization. The Data Governance Intern will assist in maintaining governance artifacts, supporting stewardship activities, validating data definitions and standards, and helping identify opportunities to improve data quality and compliance practices. This role plays an important supporting part in our mission to deliver reliable, well-governed, and business-ready data to internal stakeholders and external customers.

As part of the Data and Analytics team, you will work closely with Financial and Operational analysts, business leaders, data stewards, and other members of IT to support enterprise data governance initiatives and help promote trusted, well-managed data across the organization. You will assist with activities such as metadata management, business glossary development, data quality monitoring, governance documentation, and data stewardship coordination.

This role provides valuable hands-on experience in how enterprise data is defined, governed, and managed at scale. You will help improve data consistency, usability, and accountability while learning how business processes, systems, and data domains connect across the enterprise. Duties and responsibilities:

 

  • Assist data stewards with documenting business terms, data definitions, and metadata
  • Support data quality monitoring, issue tracking, and remediation efforts
  • Create data governance metrics reports and dashboards
  • Maintain data dictionaries, glossaries, and lineage documentation
  • Participate in data governance meetings and working sessions
  • Research and document data policies, standards, and best practices
  • Assist with identifying sensitive data elements and classification efforts
  • Support master data and reference data management activities
  • Help create governance training materials and user documentation
  • Collaborate with data stewards, analysts, engineers, and business users
  • Perform basic SQL queries and data analysis to investigate issues
  • Assist with governance tool administration and metadata updates
  • Capture requirements for data management tool functionality
  • Track action items, governance metrics, and project progress
  • Support audit, compliance, and data retention initiatives where applicable

 

Required Skills & Qualifications:

 

  • Pursuing a degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Business, or related field
  • Strong ATTENTION TO DETAIL and organizational skills
  • Interest in data management, governance, analytics, or business intelligence
  • Basic understanding of databases, spreadsheets, and data concepts
  • STRONG communication, collaboration, and documentation skills
  • Diplomacy in dealing with stakeholders and business users
  • Ability to lead a meeting and guide participants to achieve meeting objectives
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Familiarity with SQL, Excel, and Power BI is a plus

Physical Demands:

 

  • This position may require travel to various company locations on the East and West Coast.
