Title: Data Platform Engineer
Location: Vienna, VA (HYBRID)
Duration: Initial 6-month contract with possible extensions
Compensation: $70/hour - $85/hour

Data Platform Engineer
The Data Platform Engineer will join the Digital Engineering organization and provide technical support to Digital applications and services that improve the member/user experience, support client’s strategic initiatives and drive value to client.
To support and participate in Digital’s Agile development and engineering processes throughout the product lifecycle (product initiation, planning, implementation, reviews, and releases) to design, implement, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure database solutions that enable efficient data management, ensure high availability, and support the organization's business and operational needs.
Focus will be on optimizing databases’ performance, capacity, and reliability while aligning with industry standards and best practices to safeguard data integrity and accessibility. Work under minimal supervision and use complete understanding of business needs and objectives to support projects that have impact on the achievement of operational goals.
Responsibilities:- Design, implement, and manage advanced cloud database architectures, ensuring scalability and reliability
- Work with Agile development teams leveraging Liquibase to manage database scheme changes
- Monitor and optimize database performance and capacity planning
- Develop and manage backup policies, data retention policies and disaster recovery plans
- Conduct in-depth performance analyses and execute tuning initiatives
- Develop advanced automation workflows to improve database operations efficiency
- Implement and enforce robust encryption and security protocols; drive initiatives for regulatory compliance
- Diagnose and solve advanced database issues with minimal supervision, ensuring data integrity and availability
- Collaborate with Digital Agile teams, Digital Engineering, and ETS Data partners to align database strategies with business goals
- Improve operational quality by compiling and analyzing data, and preparing recommendations based on that analysis for use in decision-making
- Prepare technical, process, and operations-related documentation
- Track work in accordance with team processes and ensure task and backlog items are properly documented
- Prepare and deliver clear, concise, and effective communications to teams and management
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members
Qualifications:- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, a related field or the equivalent combination of education, training or experience
- 5-7 years of experience in database engineering and administration.
- Complete knowledge and understanding of business area/specialization
- Advanced skill with hands-on experience in Azure SQL, Microsoft SQL, and enterprise database platforms
- Advanced skill designing, testing and deploying backup and disaster recovery solutions
- Advanced skill in database performance tuning and capacity planning with monitoring
- Experience in developing advanced automation scripts and workflows
- Advanced knowledge of regulatory frameworks
- Advance knowledge in secure data practices and data governance
- Advanced skill to design scalable database solutions and address advanced performance bottlenecks
- Expert analytical/quantitative, problem-solving, and deductive reasoning skills, with demonstrated experience performing advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis of complex technical issues
- Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills and ability to work independently and in a team environment to manage concurrent priorities and meet deadlines
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills and ability to present findings, conclusions, alternatives, and information clearly and concisely
- Experience working with all levels of staff, management, stakeholders, vendors with demonstrated ability to build effective relationships through rapport, trust, diplomacy and tact
- Desired - Microsoft® Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
- Desired – Hands-on experience using Liquibase to manage schema changes
- Desired - Experience supporting platform engineering, infrastructure, cloud, digital, or software engineering organizations.
- Desired - Familiarity with application modernization and decommissioning programs.
- Desired - Experience working with risk, audit, cybersecurity, compliance, and regulatory initiatives.
- Desired - Experience with the banking/financial services industry
- Desired - Knowledge of Navy Federal’s services, products, applications, business processes, and functions
Other Details:- Location: The hiring leader's preference is for the contractor to report to HDQ (Vienna, VA) in a hybrid capacity. However, they are also open to candidates who can work in a hybrid arrangement from Pensacola, FL, Winchester, VA, or San Diego, CA.
- Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30AM-5:00PM Eastern core hours w/ ability to work outside core workday when circumstances warrant (flex schedule will be permitted).
