The AUKUS, Submarines, and Industrial Base Group (ASIG), within the Sea, Land, Air Division, provides timely, objective, analytic assessments that integrate technical, operational, programmatic, policy and business analysis to NAVSEA Team Submarine program offices and key stakeholders surrounding submarine platform construction.  Team Submarine unifies submarine platform procurement activities, which includes the Columbia-class SSBN program (a Major Defense Acquisition Program and the Navy’s top acquisition priority), the Virginia-class SSN program and the new SSN-X program (developing the next generation attack submarine), to bring improved capabilities to our undersea forces.  Analysts and Engineers supporting Team Submarine will continue SPA’s decades of support to the SSBN force, as well as supporting oversight of cutting-edge attack submarine construction, assisting in developing the design requirements for the SSN platform of the future, and helping plan and execute new and innovative strategies to strengthen the critical submarine shipbuilding industrial base. These are high-profile, major acquisition and manufacturing programs of significant importance to the future capabilities of the US Navy in an era of renewed strategic competition. #MC

Responsibilities:

In this role, you will serve as a data scientist analyzing complex data sets and developing analytic tools for use in the coordination, planning, management, and execution of funding and financial plans for a robust defense manufacturing effort. Responsibilities will include leveraging a technical background and strong computer programming skills to design, implement, and maintain analytic tools in functional areas of finance, procurement, engineering, and scheduling. You should expect to collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team consisting of engineers, developers, managers and stakeholders to provide recommendations related to the manufacturing lifecycle and project management.

This position is based at SPA HQ in Alexandria, VA with some local travel to client sites in West Bethesda and DC with limited telework.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM or business field
• Strong internships or 2+ years experience analyzing complex data sets, developing analytic tools or software, and utilizing coding languages such as Python and PowerBI DAX to solve problems in engineering or project management
• Proven ability to coordinate, communicate, and act independently within a dynamic team environment
• Ability to simplify complex problems, make actionable recommendations, and independently tackle analytic challenges
• Current DoD security clearance - minimum Secret, with the ability to maintain it throughout employment

 

Desired Qualifications: 

• Familiarity with DoN databases such as Navy ERP and Navy NEPS
• Experience with and knowledge of Navy requirements and program office organizations and processes
• Experience supporting defense manufacturing, Navy shipbuilding, research and development, defense acquisition programs, or other relevant initiatives
