Help Turn Quality Data Into Better Service for Connecticut Families

Are you detail-oriented, analytical and passionate about making sure information is accurate, reliable and useful? United Way of Connecticut is looking for a Data Steward to support the quality and maintenance of Child Care Services program data.

In this role, you’ll help ensure data integrity, support system testing, maintain business process documentation and verify child care provider training requirements. You’ll work collaboratively across teams to identify trends, resolve data issues and ensure information is accurate and available when our programs need it.

What You’ll Do

  • Define data elements and assist in establishing policies and procedures related to the collection and accuracy of data. 
  • Document, implement and support database usage standards. 
  • Develop and maintain business process documentation. 
  • Research, evaluate and verify providers’ completion of Provider Orientation Project (POP) training. 
  • Communicate verified provider results to appropriate Care 4 Kids and 211 Child Care team members. 
  • Assess and monitor data to ensure quality, consistency and integrity. 
  • Create and deliver ad-hoc and institutional reports. 
  • Collaborate with key business team members to resolve issues related to data standards and definitions. 
  • Participate in user acceptance testing to ensure defined system requirements are met. 
  • Collect and analyze data from multiple sources to identify trends. 
  • Report outcomes and measurements and recommend opportunities for improvement. 
  • Enter accurate case data, including narrative and statistical records of client contacts. 
  • Maintain reporting schedules to ensure defined deliverables are accurate and completed on time. 
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of current systems, identify opportunities for improvement and recommend solutions. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

A Day in the Life

You may start your day reviewing data for accuracy or investigating a discrepancy, then verify provider training information and communicate your findings to program teams. Later, you might participate in system testing, update process documentation or develop a report that helps teams better understand trends and program outcomes.

Your work helps ensure that teams across United Way of Connecticut have accurate, reliable and consistent data to support the people and communities we serve.

Schedule & Environment

  • Full-time position. 
  • Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM. 
  • Flexible hours may be available based on business needs.  
  • Hybrid schedule: 2 days in the Rocky Hill office and 3 days remote. 
  • May be required to work outside regular office hours and adhere to specified emergency response times.

  • $24.79–$32.98/hour, based on relevant experience, education and internal equity. 
  • Employees who are proficient in Spanish and/or Portuguese and successfully complete the applicable language proficiency assessment after 90 days of employment may be eligible to receive an additional $0.75 per hour for one language or $1.50 per hour for both languages. 
  • 5% employer 401(k) contribution.

Requirements:

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Computer Science or a related field and one year of experience; or 
  • Associate’s degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Computer Science or a related field and three years of experience; or 
  • One year of post-secondary education and five years of experience. 
  • Knowledge of operational processes and data systems. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams. 
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in day-to-day duties. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication, listening, organization and priority-setting skills. 
  • Strong customer focus in all tasks and activities, even while under pressure. 
  • Solid problem-solving skills through analysis and ongoing feedback. 
  • Ability to work effectively and produce results in a team environment. 
  • Ability to relate well with people from diverse groups. 
  • Ability to perform the job with integrity and values consistent with the United Way of Connecticut mission.
