JOB TITLE/ASSIGNMENT

Position: Data Systems Technician

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree plus two years of related experience, or six years of related work experience.
  • Knowledge of programming languages.
  • Previous experience in establishing, monitoring, and maintaining data communication systems, servers, networks, and micro/mainframe computers.
  • Experience and demonstrated expertise in the management of educational information, systems, reports, and design.
  • Experience and demonstrated expertise with financial and human resources applications, including: general ledgers, payroll, personnel, accounts payable, fixed assets, and inventory control.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills, problem solving capabilities, and ability to work with complex information systems, programming, and system hardware.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

Performance Responsibilities

  • Responsible for coordinating a total system design at every user level for schools and departments within the district.
  • Monitor, evaluate, research, and revise existing data systems and procedures, providing guidance for the design of logical data structures to minimize data redundancy and maximize data sharing.
  • Design layouts; define data elements, forms, and procedures.
  • Provides support, assistance, and training for district end-users for hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Responsible for the monitoring, evaluation, operation and maintenance of data integrity, and data communication within the school board's data system.
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations for the appropriate purchase, acquisition, installation, and maintenance of data communications, data storage, data processing, network equipment, software, operating systems, or any other ancillary equipment or software necessary for the efficient and effective operation of the school board's data systems.
  • Responsible for inventory and record control of all related equipment and software licenses.
  • Systematizes all repetitive processes and provides system flowcharts for all subordinates and end-users.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and establishes appropriate security access, user restrictions, and hardware/software configurations, providing a safe, secure, effective, and efficient data system and network.
  • Provides training for all end-users to effectively use new or modified equipment.
  • Responds to customer inquiries on the telephone, through on-line networks, and by mail. Maintains and analyzes the tracking for all end-user requests.
  • Provides planning, scheduling, and supervision of the repair, maintenance, or replacement of inoperative or inefficient equipment. Records these requests and develops a continuously improving system of preventive maintenance and on-site troubleshooting.
  • Provides direct supervision and day-to-day performance for Tech Specialists.
  • Communicates with software programmers, publishers, and authors regarding bugs, follow-ups, fixes, and enhancements.
  • Supporting Data Processing in recovering from database crisis.
  • Ensures back-up and recovery procedures are executed and scheduled.
  • Provide the following for new applications: maintain the data dictionary, keying changes, keying new entries in existing databases and keying new schemas.
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Administrator of Information Technology, the Superintendent, or the Board.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects. Exposure to noise and activity of a school setting. Ability to actively perform work in classroom, office, and other business and community settings. Ability to move freely and perform duties in numerous locations throughout the day (typically involving frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and lifting). Exposure to noise and activity of a school setting. Exposure to weather conditions. Ability to travel outside the district for a variety of meetings and conferences.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Calendar Months: 12 Month

Salary Schedule: Administrative Support Pay Grade: Base

Salary and Benefits as determined and approved annually by Hendry County School Board.

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with School Board Policies for evaluation of administrative personnel.
