Job Description

The Data Technician supports the integration and communication between Automated Material Handling Systems (AMHS) and semiconductor manufacturing equipment within a high-volume cleanroom environment. Working onsite at a leading semiconductor manufacturing facility in North Phoenix, this role ensures that AMHS equipment and process tools successfully communicate through software, network, and data interfaces to enable automated wafer movement and efficient manufacturing operations. The position is based in a fast-paced, rapidly growing technology environment and follows a compressed night shift schedule with 12-hour shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Configure and validate software and data communication between AMHS equipment and semiconductor process tools to ensure reliable automated operations.
  • Establish, test, and troubleshoot equipment interfaces, communication protocols, and network connectivity between host systems, AMHS equipment, and manufacturing tools.
  • Support final commissioning activities following AMHS installation and calibration to confirm production readiness.
  • Monitor communication status between host systems, AMHS equipment, and manufacturing tools to identify integration issues and resolve them promptly.
  • Perform system verification testing and maintain documentation to confirm that equipment meets operational and customer requirements.
  • Adjust configuration settings, mapping parameters, and communication logic to optimize equipment performance and system reliability.
  • Investigate and resolve software, hardware, and data communication failures that impact production, escalating complex issues to engineering teams when necessary.
  • Collaborate closely with automation engineers, controls engineers, equipment technicians, and production teams to troubleshoot system issues and support tool integration.
  • Document system configurations, modifications, testing results, and corrective actions in a clear and organized manner.
  • Follow all cleanroom, safety, quality, and customer-specific procedures while working in the manufacturing environment.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on enhancing system reliability, manufacturing efficiency, and integration processes.
  • Work on and around physical machines and automated systems that communicate with each other, particularly manufacturing equipment and automated material handling systems.

Essential Skills

  • Associate degree in Electronics, Information Technology, Computer Systems, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field; equivalent technical experience may be considered.
  • Experience working with physical machines that communicate with each other, preferably manufacturing equipment or automated systems.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts, software configuration, and industrial communication systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, and equipment manuals accurately.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills focused on data, software, hardware, and communication issues.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office and standard computer software applications.
  • Ability to wear full cleanroom garments and personal protective equipment and work in a controlled manufacturing environment for extended periods.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined equipment areas as required.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds safely.
  • Ability to distinguish cable labels, indicator lights, and system status information clearly.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience supporting AMHS systems, overhead hoist transport (OHT) systems, stockers, conveyors, or other automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor manufacturing facilities, fab operations, and cleanroom practices.
  • Knowledge of SECS/GEM, TCP/IP networking, industrial communication protocols, or factory automation systems.
  • Experience commissioning, integrating, or validating manufacturing equipment in a production environment.
  • Understanding of equipment-to-host and tool-to-tool communication systems and their role in automated manufacturing.
  • Exp in data integration, networking, electronics, automation, and industrial communication systems.
  • Comfort working with automated material handling systems, warehouse or manufacturing automation technologies, and modern computer systems.
  • Ability to support continuous improvement and reliability-focused initiatives in a high-tech manufacturing setting.

Work Environment

This role is based in a Class 1/Class 10 semiconductor cleanroom environment in North Phoenix and operates on a compressed night shift schedule with 12-hour shifts (6:00 PM to 6:00 AM), following either Sunday-Tuesday and every other Saturday or Wednesday-Friday and every other Saturday. The Data Technician spends the majority of the workday inside the cleanroom, wearing full cleanroom attire, including a bunny suit, gloves, booties, safety glasses, and other required personal protective equipment. Work frequently occurs near automated robotic systems and semiconductor manufacturing equipment and may involve supporting a single tool for periods ranging from 20 minutes to several hours, depending on integration requirements and system complexity. The position requires standing and walking for extended periods, as well as the ability to bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined equipment areas around automated machinery. The environment is fast paced, technology-focused, and offers significant growth opportunities as the operation expands, providing exposure to cutting-edge manufacturing automation and highly sought-after technology customers.
