About Avtal

Avtal helps collection agencies connect with consumers in a more modern and friendly way - through white-labeled digital outreach that drives higher recovery rates and better experiences.

We've raised $9M (most recently led by S3 Ventures) and were recognized as their fastest-growing portfolio company. Our platform is quickly becoming the industry standard for digital debt collection. We're scaling our team and looking for people who want to help modernize a critical part of the financial system.

What You'll Do

  • Design, implement, and maintain highly available PostgreSQL databases in production environments.
  • Optimize schema design, queries, and indexing to support high-volume transactional workloads.
  • Develop and automate processes for backups, replication, and failover to ensure data integrity and uptime.
  • Collaborate with backend and ML teams on data model evolution and system performance.
  • Build and manage CI/CD database workflows using GitHub.
  • Monitor database health and performance, implementing proactive improvements and alerts.
  • Help triage and resolve production issues, working closely with product and engineering teams during incidents.
  • Create Ad-Hoc reports to support customer support and product organizations.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and support post-incident reviews.
  • Implement and enforce database security, access control, and compliance best practices.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or Database Engineer.
  • Deep hands-on experience with PostgreSQL administration, tuning, and high availability.
  • Strong SQL and scripting skills (bash, Python, or similar).
  • Familiarity with GitHubAnsible, or other automation tools.
  • Experience with AWS RDS, EC2, or cloud-hosted PostgreSQL.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and observability systems (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, etc.).
  • Strong debugging and production triage skills — able to quickly assess impact and drive toward resolution.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities across technical teams.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with ElasticsearchNSQ, or message queue architectures.
  • Exposure to ML data pipelines and analytics workloads.
  • Prior experience in a high-growth startup or SaaS environment.
