Job description:
- Provide day-to-day incident and deployment support for multiple database technologies (Oracle, SQL Server, Postgres) through on-site and remote administration, user support, performance monitoring, tuning, and capacity planning.
- Manage incident response via the organization’s ticketing system, adhering to published change-management service-level agreements.
- Serve as a technical leader in incident response, maintenance, documentation, and support of large, complex, distributed database and server environments.
- Develop growth plans to ensure the hosting environment supports projected application demand.
- Develop and implement procedures for proactive problem detection and avoidance, including disaster-recovery planning and implementation.
- Create and maintain project plans, keeping management informed of critical failures or potential missed milestones.
- Collaborate with program and project managers, engineering teams, staff, and vendors to manage projects, drive outcomes, and lead teams.
- Analyze and resolve complex hardware and software problems; assist development teams in testing and implementing software changes.
- Develop and implement operational management processes and procedures.
- Track inventory and complete documentation required for deploying servers.
- Utilize monitoring, systems management, software distribution, and security tools selected by management; facilitate backups and restores of data and application code.
- Escalate unusual or unexpected findings and provide reports on system status as requested.
- Provide weekly status reports and maintain records of hours worked on projects.
- Follow change- and case-management procedures; perform isolation testing of problematic equipment or software.
- Document solutions to problems, application guidelines, and issues; share findings with management and other stakeholders.
- Implement escalation procedures and adhere to quality-assurance programs chosen by management.
- Provide on-site system or application support for deployment and installation as required.
- Interact with all functional groups to accomplish objectives; create and edit computer-based documentation and trouble-ticket systems to document configurations, track changes, and compile performance data.
- Provide assistance, training, and knowledge sharing to users and other administrators; maintain leadership qualities consistent with the organization’s standards.
