Job Description:

We have a career opportunity for a Database / Data Management Specialist to support the design, administration, and sustainment of core data assets used for programmatic reporting, performance management, and decision support. This role will manage business datasets, ensure data integrity across systems, and implement processes for reliable, repeatable data integration and transformation. This role would be based in Washington DC. Role would require you to be on-site.

The Database / Data Management Specialist is a hands-on technologist with strong capabilities in database administration, data modeling, and ETL/data consolidation. This role requires the ability to understand data structures across multiple systems, implement efficient and secure data flows, and maintain high-quality data products that underpin dashboards, applications, and analytical tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer and support databases and shared datasets that serve as authoritative sources for reporting and analytics across the organization.
  • Design, implement, and maintain data models that support dashboards, applications, and performance management tools.
  • Develop and maintain ETL processes to consolidate data from multiple systems of record (e.g., SAM, FSMS, SharePoint), ensuring consistency, completeness, and alignment with data standards.
  • Implement and monitor data quality checks, validation routines, and reconciliation processes to safeguard data integrity.
  • Maintain documentation for data structures, data flows, and transformation logic to support transparency and maintainability.
  • Collaborate with analysts and developers to ensure datasets are optimized for reporting, analytics, and Power Platform solutions.
  • Support database performance tuning, security configurations, and access management in coordination with IT and security teams.
  • Troubleshoot data issues, resolve discrepancies, and support investigations of data anomalies across systems.
  • Participate in planning and execution of data-related components of larger projects, including migration, modernization, and integration efforts.

Typical Assignments:

  • Building and maintaining shared datasets that feed Power BI dashboards, Power Apps, and automated workflows.
  • Creating ETL routines to regularly extract, transform, and load data from SAM, FSMS, and other systems into centralized repositories.
  • Designing and updating relational data models to support new reporting or application needs.
  • Implementing and monitoring data quality controls, including completeness checks, referential integrity checks, and reconciliation reports.
  • Supporting data-related testing and validation for new dashboards, applications, and automations.
  • Responding to data-related tickets and requests from analysts, developers, and business users.
  • Assisting with the transition and sustainment of enterprise datasets as systems and processes are modernized.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Management, or a closely related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in database administration, data engineering, or data management roles.
  • Strong knowledge of relational database concepts, data modeling techniques, and data integration practices.
  • Proficiency with SQL and ETL tools or frameworks used for data consolidation and transformation.
  • Experience supporting enterprise datasets used for dashboards, analytics, and reporting.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft technologies such as Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate is preferred.
  • Experience working with data from complex operational or financial systems (e.g., asset management, ERP, or financial management systems) is a plus.
