Position Overview

Vision IT is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Database Architect to support mission-critical operations onsite at Los Angeles Air Force Base. The ideal candidate will design, implement, optimize, and maintain secure enterprise database solutions supporting Department of Defense (DoD) systems and applications. This role requires a strong background in database architecture, cybersecurity compliance, and performance optimization within classified environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-level database architectures and data models.
  • Administer and optimize relational and non-relational database environments.
  • Ensure database security, integrity, availability, and compliance with DoD cybersecurity policies and standards.
  • Perform database tuning, indexing, monitoring, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Support system migrations, upgrades, and modernization initiatives.
  • Collaborate with system administrators, software developers, cybersecurity teams, and program stakeholders.
  • Implement data governance and lifecycle management best practices.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and architecture diagrams.
  • Troubleshoot complex database performance and connectivity issues.
  • Support accreditation and compliance activities including RMF, STIGs, and security audits.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Secret Security Clearance (required).
  • Current CompTIA Security+ (Sec+) certification required.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in database administration and architecture.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or similar enterprise database platforms.
  • Experience designing scalable, high-availability database solutions.
  • Knowledge of DoD cybersecurity standards, RMF, STIG implementation, and secure system design.
  • Experience with backup/recovery strategies, replication, clustering, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting DoD or federal government environments.
  • Additional certifications such as CISSP, AWS, Azure, or Oracle/Microsoft database certifications.
  • Experience with cloud database technologies and hybrid architectures.
  • Familiarity with scripting and automation tools such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
