A Database Specialist, also known as a Database Spec, is responsible for designing, implementing, and

managing databases within an organization. They work closely with stakeholders to understand data

requirements and create efficient and secure database structures. They ensure data integrity, optimize

performance, and troubleshoot any issues that arise. Additionally, they may develop and maintain data dictionaries, establish data governance policies, and provide training and support to users.

• Reviews and assists in database applications and file design to provide system efficiency, integrity and security.
• Performs production turnover on time, following standards and guidelines.
• Provides IS staff support in database technology, by creating and maintaining databases, customizing related software and creating procedures.
• Installs new product releases, and coordinates integration over databases and platforms.
• Conducts new technology investigations and evaluations, and makes recommendations to management to support NJ TRANSITs Information Systems requirements.
• Trains IS personnel and end-users in RDBMS/DBMS technology.
• Provides, during a scheduled period, support to all databases, support jobs and application staff in a 7-day-24 hour environment.

Education, Experience and Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related subject
• Four (4) years of experience in Data Processing, to include three (3) years of experience in Oracle RDBMS.
• Previous experience with Oracle Financial Applications 11i (particularly General Ledger and Fixed Assets), spatial cartridge, GIS and Oracle RACS (Real Application Cluster) on a Windows 2000 platform preferred.
• Ability to design Data Warehouse schemas, experience with Discoverer Designer and Query tools desired.
• Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to use technical skills across multiple platforms and technologies.
