Do you want to help public sector organizations transform their most critical data workloads in the cloud? AWS is seeking a database specialist Solutions Architect to serve as a trusted technical advisor to State & Local Government, Education, and emerging technology customers embarking on complex database migration and modernization journeys. In this role, you"ll combine deep technical expertise in relational and non-relational database technologies with customer-facing consulting skills to architect solutions that drive measurable business outcomes.

You"ll work at the intersection of technology innovation and public sector impact, guiding customers through the intricacies of database architecture across Amazon RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, DocumentDB, ElastiCache, Neptune, MemoryDB, and Oracle Database@AWS. From leading migration assessments and performance optimization engagements to delivering enablement workshops that scale your impact across field teams, you"ll shape how public sector customers leverage AWS database services to serve their communities more effectively.

AWS Specialist Solutions Architects (SSAs) are technologists with deep domain-specific expertise, able to address advanced concepts and feature designs. As part of the AWS sales organization, SSAs work with customers who have complex challenges that require expert-level knowledge to solve. SSAs craft scalable, flexible, and resilient technical architectures that address those challenges. This might involve guiding customers as they refactor an application or designing entirely new cloud-based systems.

Specialist SAs play a critical role in capturing customer feedback, advocating for roadmap enhancements, and anticipating customer requirements as they work backwards from their needs. As domain experts, SSAs also participate in field engagement and enablement, producing content such as whitepapers, blogs, and workshops for customers, partners, and the AWS Technical Field.

Key job responsibilities

  • Design and architect end-to-end database solutions for public sector customers, leading technical discussions on complex migration and modernization strategies across relational databases (Amazon RDS, Aurora), NoSQL services (DynamoDB, DocumentDB), and specialized database engines (Neptune, ElastiCache, MemoryDB)
  • Lead complex database migration assessments, performance optimization engagements, and architecture reviews, applying technical judgment to evaluate trade-offs in scalability, reliability, cost optimization, and operational excellence
  • Provide strategic technical guidance to customers through 1:1 advisory sessions and 1:many enablement workshops, translating business requirements into technical solutions that address their unique challenges in the competitive database landscape
  • Drive database service adoption and revenue growth by contributing to go-to-market strategy, creating reusable technical content (workshops, reference architectures, best practices), and mentoring field Solutions Architects through office hours and knowledge sharing
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including sales, product, and engineering to gather customer feedback, influence database service roadmaps, and ensure customer requirements are translated into actionable product enhancements

We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
