POSITION TITLE: Database Support Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Administrative Center/Technology Software
REPORTS TO: Administrative Software Systems Manager
JOB GOALS: To support, implement and maintain administrative software systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain, development, test, support and secure relational database environments using, but not limited to, SQL and Oracle.
Understand and work with the State Department of Education on the horizontal and vertical layers of the zone integration server, verifying the district is in compliance with schools interoperability framework (SIF).
Oversee the district student information system. Schedule system updates, troubleshoot problems, and develop ad hoc and custom reports. Coordinate with the SIS vendor and district staff to develop technical solutions to changes in federal, state, and district laws and policies as well as maintain student data privacy and security.
Coordinate the processing and accuracy of student transcripts, behavior data, and activity eligibility status. Maintain and enhance the district online enrollment application.
Work with site, district, and state employees on mandatory state and federal reports.
Document procedures for users in the use of software programs through consultation, email, phone, and meetings.
Develop and maintain administrative reporting, file extracts, file imports and data integrations and transfers using, but not limited to, SQL statements, SQL Reporting services (SSRS), Visual Studio, OneRoster, and secure file transfer protocols.
Troubleshoot simple to complex issues as reported by staff and parents on existing software applications.
Research and resolve issues by writing simple to complex queries against databases.
Understand data integration problems, including validation and cleaning of data.
May evaluate and recommend new procedures, software, and hardware.
Perform related work as required and assigned.
Length of Contract:
Two hundred forty (240) contract days.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Administrative Software Systems Manager in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policies and state law.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Exposure to Information Technology, demonstrating strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Demonstrate initiative and proven follow through skills.
Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server including development of simple to complex queries, stored procedures, triggers and functions.
Knowledge of SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
Knowledge of spreadsheets and pivot tables.
Microsoft Access experience is beneficial.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or mathematics, statistics or other information-related field) preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to maintain accurate records and supporting documentation. Ability to solve complex problems and understand the logic behind mathematical concepts. Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
REASONABLE ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Ability to use computer and computer related programs and other technologies needed to perform essential job functions. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to organize and chair or facilitate committees and meetings. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
