DAY CAMP COUNSELOR SEASONAL

JOB SUMMARY
Under direct supervision of a day camp director, continuously supervise day camp activities for children, including but not limited to sports games, field trips, arts and crafts, music, and swimming. Enforce rules and regulations to assure safety of children during daily camp activities, bus rides, and during field trips.
Perform other related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Continuously supervise programs and activities of the playground or day camp program during all scheduled hours. Maintain supplies inventory. Conduct and supervise programs at multiple sites. Effectively follow lesson plans and instructions from supervisor. Supervise large groups of children both visually and audibly to ensure health and safety standards are maintained. Fill out handwritten reports effectively. Communicate courteously and effectively with other city employees, citizens, and program patrons. Practice continuous public relations in dealing with the public. Work outdoors in extreme heat and fluctuating temperatures. Lead and participate in active games and sports. Make quick, effective decisions. Work well with parents. Attend mandatory staff training week before the start of camp. Must also attend weekly staff meetings.
REQUIRED EDUCATION DEGREES CERTIFICATES AND OR LICENSES
Must have reliable transportation. CPR and First-Aid Certification required or must obtain during job orientation.
EXPERIENCE TRAINING KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Must be at least 16 years of age. Experience working with children is required. Knowledge or skills in sports games, arts and crafts, music, and/or other recreational activities preferred. Must have ability to cope with large groups of children, high noise levels, and fast-paced environment. Ability to maintain effective public relations required. Must be able to communicate with children and adults effectively.
