Summary: Under the general supervision of the Site Supervisor II, the Day Camp Supervisor is responsible for the oversight of operations of a summer day camp for school aged children and directs activities. The Day Camp Supervisor is responsible for following agency policies, procedures and all applicable laws to ensure compliance within the program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Knowledge of: Techniques and activities used to develop recreation opportunities for school-age children; strategies and methods used to motivate and engage children; managerial skills such as communication, scheduling, supply ordering.
Ability to: Understand and independently carry out oral and written instructions; communicate effectively in both oral and written form; organize and prioritize workload; exercise good judgment and due caution in the performance of assigned duties; analyze situations and make decisions on procedural matters; work effectively under stress; create and maintain a caring respectful environment for children; to establish and sustain effective work relationships with others; provide direct support to children; participate in formal and informal communication with parent/caregiver regarding children's behavior.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises Day Camp Leaders and Senior Day Camp Leaders
Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and Experience: College Degree (B.A. or B.S.) in recreation, child development or a related field; or two years related management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence as well as, speak effectively before groups of participants, parents and/or employees within the organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and percentages.
Computer Skills: Solid experience working with Microsoft Office 13 which includes word outlook, processing, spreadsheets and database programs.
Reasoning Abilities: Must have the ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
