    Job Description

    The Daycare Teacher is responsible for helping supervise the Cocopah Day Care, providing early childhood education, and otherwise ensuring a safe and healthy environment for the children. The Teacher works under the direction of the Daycare Director to accomplish various daily tasks, including managing paperwork, creating reports for parents, and providing customer service to families. This role often requires supervising other staff members and helping to ensure the Daycare's compliance with both Federal and State regulations.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assists the Director in running the day-to-day operations of the center and also fills in for the Director when necessary.
    • Ensures that all children have proper documentation on file, including insurance information, allergies, details of any medical conditions they suffer from, and parental authorization indicating who is authorized to pick up the child from the facility.
    • Understands and complies with the Day Care's rules, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
    • Maintain records of the building's administration under federal, state, and local laws.
    • Prepare summary reports for the center, process inspection, and accident reports.
    • Manage parent issues and concerns, parent/coordinator conferences, and conduct site visits with parents, be available to listen to their comments and concerns, and keep them informed of new developments.
    • Assists in providing parents with information on the daycare's activities, program events, workshops, and training available to parents.
    • Takes children on scheduled trips.
    • Assists with daily activities upon the arrival of children as they enter the Day Care Center.
    • Attends as requested by the Director, planned staff/parent meetings, workshops in or out of town, and required training.
    • Maintains the daycare's enrollment numbers by responding to parent inquiries, advertising, and any other applicable marketing initiatives.
    • Works with the Director to create a budget for the center, submit timesheets, and purchase necessary supplies.
    • Responsible for supervising the children and developing activities that they enjoy and learn from.
    • Maintains ongoing, open communication with parents and caregivers.
    • Monitors the center, making sure that it is a safe and healthy place for children and that it complies with appropriate state codes.
    • Assists with all necessary cleaning duties.
    • Other duties may be assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    • Must be familiar with the procedures for reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protective Services.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills are required. An understanding of early childhood growth and development, as well as the ability to apply this understanding to appropriate activities, is required.
    • The ability to instruct adults and model appropriate interactions between children and their families is required.
    • General knowledge of nutrition, health, and first aid is required.
    • The ability to develop knowledge, respect, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
    • This position works with young children and requires sufficient physical mobility and communication ability to interact with staff and children during the daily activities of the Center. This position involves lifting and carrying young children.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Mental demands/Physical demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; prolonged use of a computer and repetitive hand motions; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
    • Deals with constant interruptions and critical deadlines that may arise from time to time.
    • Possible exposure to blood and bodily fluids or tissues.
    • Possible exposure to communicable diseases.
    • Job requires sitting for an extended period (during planning and reporting) and standing for long periods (during observations and training), as well as stooping, squatting, and running.
    • A moderate amount of driving is required.
    • Exposure to adverse weather conditions.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Valid fingerprint clearance card
    • CPR and first aid certification.
    • Food Safety certification
    • Must submit to a yearly physical, TB skin test.
    • Ability to obtain a Health Card.
    • Must be able to undergo and pass a DPS/FBI fingerprint background investigation, and cannot have two (2) or more misdemeanors or felony convictions.
    • Valid AZ Driver's License.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE

    • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college and at least six months of childcare experience are preferred.
    • Associate's degree in a related field, 1 full year of graduate level education, or superior academic achievement leading to a bachelor's degree
    • 3-year work experience in a related field or 3 years of supervisory work experience
    • N.A.C., C.D.A., or C.C.P. credential or Child Development or Early Childhood Education (ECE, CDA) is required.
