    Job Title: Janitor

    Department: Operations

    Reports To: Janitorial Supervisor

    FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

    Summary

    Maintains assigned customer facilities in a clean, safe, and orderly condition by performing a variety of custodial, housekeeping, and light facility maintenance duties. This position may require servicing multiple locations during a scheduled shift.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Other duties may be assigned.

    • Cleans and polishes lighting fixtures, marble surfaces, and trim.
    • Cleans rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas.
    • Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors.
    • Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies.
    • Dusts furniture and equipment.
    • Polishes metalwork.
    • Washes walls, ceilings, and woodwork.
    • Washes windows, door panels, and sills.
    • Empties wastebaskets and trash receptacles.
    • Transports trash and waste to designated disposal areas.
    • Replenishes restroom supplies.
    • Replaces light bulbs as needed.
    • Performs seasonal duties, including grass trimming and snow removal when required by the site contract.
    • Delivers messages or materials as needed.
    • Transports small equipment, tools, or supplies between departments or work locations.
    • Assists with setting up tables, chairs, and other equipment for meetings or events.
    • Travels between assigned work locations during scheduled shifts to complete required cleaning responsibilities and ensure coverage needs are met.

    Transportation Requirement

    • Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
    • Must maintain proof of current automobile insurance.
    • This position requires regular travel between two assigned work locations approximately two blocks apart. Employees must have their own vehicle available during working hours to travel between locations as business needs require.
    • The ability to independently travel between assigned locations is an essential function of this position.

    Work Environment

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly exposed to wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, cleaning chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, and elevated noise levels.

    Physical Demands

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

    • Stand and walk for extended periods.
    • Use hands and arms to handle materials and equipment.
    • Reach, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb stairs, and balance.
    • Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
    • Move between multiple work locations during a shift.

    Qualifications

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

    Education and/or Experience

    • Less than a high school education; or
    • Up to one month of related experience or training; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Additional Requirements

    • Valid driver's license required.
    • Reliable personal vehicle required.
    • Current automobile insurance required.
    • Ability to travel independently between assigned facilities during the workday.

    Language Skills

    Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, procedures, and work-related communications. Ability to write routine reports and communicate effectively with customers, supervisors, and coworkers.

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions and solve routine work-related problems.
