Position Summary

The Dean of Students serves as the primary coordinator of student behavior management and intervention, working directly with students, staff, and families to maintain a safe, orderly, and positive school environment. This position focuses intensively on student discipline, attendance tracking, proactive behavior interventions, and crisis de-escalation. While working collaboratively with the building principal, the Dean''s core responsibility is the daily management of student conduct, ensuring consistent accountability, supporting restorative practices, and upholding school safety and operational protocols aligned with district goals.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Student Behavior & School Climate

  • Discipline & Intervention: Lead the investigation, documentation, and resolution of student behavioral and disciplinary issues in alignment with board policy.
  • Behavior Support Plans: Coordinate student interventions, restorative practices, and behavior support plans in partnership with the pupil services team.
  • Visible Leadership: Maintain a highly visible presence during high-traffic times (arrival, dismissal, lunch, transitions, and school events) to ensure a safe, positive culture.

Attendance & Engagement

  • Truancy Intervention: Monitor daily attendance and actively execute targeted interventions for chronic absenteeism.
  • Family Partnership: Serve as a primary contact for families regarding behavior and attendance, facilitating problem-solving conferences to support student success.

Safety, Crisis, & Operations

  • Crisis Response: Serve on the school crisis team, assist with threat assessments, and help manage emergency procedures and safety drills.

Daily Operations: Support the daily management of school operations and assume building leadership in the absence of the Principal.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience.
  • Wisconsin Principal License (5051) or eligibility to obtain licensure.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with PBIS, restorative practices, MTSS, and student behavior systems.
  • Knowledge of Wisconsin school law, student discipline procedures, and educational best practices.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience using data to improve student outcomes.
  • Relationship building with students, staff, and families.
