    DEAN OF CULTURE
     
     
    Job Summary

    The Dean of Culture will be instrumental in creating and maintaining an environment that supports the social, emotional, and academic success of all students. The Dean of Culture will work closely with school leadership, faculty, staff, students, and families to build and sustain a culture that promotes respect, inclusion, equity, and excellence. The Dean will lead initiatives related to student behavior, character development, conflict resolution, and school climate. They will oversee discipline policies, restorative practices, and student engagement strategies, ensuring they align with the school's vision, mission, and core values.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Lead and execute programs and activities that promote a positive school culture.
    • Process behavioral incidents with students and teachers
    • Track student referrals to identify patterns and inform interventions
    • Observe classrooms to identify opportunities for improving school culture initiatives
    • Oversee student discipline, ensuring that policies and practices are fair, consistent, and restorative. Work with students to resolve conflicts and ensure that behavioral expectations align with the school’s mission.
    • Work closely with the administration, teachers, and staff to create and maintain a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for all students.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with parents, guardians, and the community to ensure they are partners in cultivating a positive school culture.
    • Collect and analyze data on student behavior, school climate, and culture. Report findings to the school leadership and make recommendations for improvements as needed.
    • Provide support during student crises and critical situations, collaborating with counselors, social workers, and other staff to ensure appropriate interventions and supports.
    • Perform other duties as assigned
     
    Qualifications
     
    • Bachelor’s Degree, required in Education, School Leadership, or related field (master’s degree preferred).
    •  Three to five years of successful teaching experience
    • Proven experience in education, ideally with a focus on school culture, student behavior management, or leadership.
    • Strong understanding of restorative practices and trauma-informed approaches.
    • Experience in conflict resolution, student advocacy, and community building.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
    • Commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable school environment.
    • Ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions.
    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate with Louisiana Certification preferred
     
    Physical Demands: 
    • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
    • Occasional need to lift items up to 25 pounds (e.g., materials for events, student belongings).
    • Frequent sitting, typing, and using a computer for extended periods.
    • Occasional need to move around the campus to monitor activities, events, and classrooms.
    • Ability to interact with individuals at various levels in the school community, including students, staff, and parents, in both one-on-one and group settings.
    • Ability to work evening and/or weekend hours when necessary.
     
    Work Environment: 
    • May work prolonged or irregular hours.
    • The work environment is primarily indoors, within a school setting.
    • The role requires flexibility and adaptability to a fast-paced school environment with shifting priorities.
    • Occasional after-school and evening hours may be required to attend meetings, events, or to support school activities.
    • Exposure to student interactions and occasional disciplinary situations, which may involve managing high-stress or sensitive situations.
    • Frequent interaction with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and parents.
